D3D12 articles - so much misunderstandings and miscommunications

Forza, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Super Mario, Streetfighter etc etc

Sorry but if you seriously believe PC gaming is ahead of Consoles then you are extremely naive Andy.

I was thinking yesterday at work how many of the 20 people I work with have a pc capable of gaming or even with a discreet GPU and the answer was 3, myself and two others, then how many of us had consoles at home, 16 of us. Think that pretty much sums it up

First off, we arent talking about ALL consoles, we are talking about xboxone and ps4 specifically because some people are trying to argue that gcn in consoles will mean PC games run better on AMD hardware.

Second, I'm going off articles posted by respected journalists and analysts. Sorry, but I'm far more likely to believe Jon Peddie who makes his entire firm's living from researching sales data, than someone off the ocuk forum.

show me a ps4/xbox one game that has broken a billion dollars on those 2 platforms alone, GTA V sold 7 million copies on ps4/xbone, so unless it was selling for $150 a pop, it didnt break a billion, also, I'm talking about single PC games that generate billions (plural) per year, not as a one off.
27 million players PER DAY, again, not total sales, per day.
67 million active accounts, that ****es all over the biggest selling console games even on all platforms.

very naive of me to think in basic maths that 67 million is a bigger number than anything i can find for any console sales.

If anything, high ps3 x360 sales of games would say games are more optimised for nvidia - I'm not but if people want to believe console optimisation affects PC then...

Ok if were talking about "Current Gen" Consoles then you have a point, but you can only count games released since current gen consoles, so your WoW / LoL has to go out the window, regardless of them releasing expansions etc.

If were talking purely on a current gen console sales compared to PC sales equivalent in like for like titles, then i think you could be right.

WoW and LoL continue to generate billion dollar revenues in 2014, in the same timeframe as consoles have sold however much (less), there are other PC exclusive titles that are generating significant user bases, much higher than any console title even if you include all consoles

the nature of pc gaming is different to consoles

Yes but you're back pedalling a bit. The PC market lends itself to certain sorts of games, such as those you mention. There are some design houses able to churn out PC games that will generate huge revenues (Blizzard in particular). However, for the vast majority of developers they'll see higher sales, higher margins and lower piracy by churning out Generic Squad Based Shooter 9 on consoles instead of PCs. This is why, as mentioned above, most developers see the consoles as their primary focus.

Exactly, he's obfuscating the topic with a view that mmo capable machines are the target audience of DX12-when the probability that a high margin of them can't even launch the likes of FC4:

I'm not back pedalling at all, i play PC games, i rarely play the "AAA" rehashed yearly installment games that are big on console

The top PC games take more money than the top multiplatform games, the total PC game software market is bigger than he software component of console sales

If people mainly play console ports, maybe they would be better off with a console, as just playing console games on a PC seems like a bit if a waste going by all the performance problems people are having... cant say i've jad much issue running the odd COD or Mordor at 100+fps mind.

Going by sales figures i thought i was a typical PC gamer, so when i see people saying "PC games will run better on AMD because consoles", i point out that PC games wont be affected by console games. But it sound like a lot of people on this forum are just playing console ports...

Tommy; there are plenty of high grossing PC games, i've just used the two record holders as examples that completely trash the highest record console games as examples. Good luck running those games on maximum settings with the minimum specs, I know WoW has been updated to DX11 and a cursory search seems to indicate DX11 for LoL as well, the fact they are backwards compatible is a plus point surely?

Also MMORPG type games have never really been successful on consoles, FF11 I think it was? Done ok, and I know Elder Scrolls Online is just about to hit consoles, I think 2 main reasons for this is 1) subs - people don't want to pay for xboxlive and an mmo sub and 2) chat input is clunky on consoles

I think if TESO looks and plays well on the console though it may interest other devs to explore that option

Anyhow it's getting off topic, so yeah AMD and DX12 looks like it should be good!!

i played counterstrike back before it went to steam where unless it was comp play there was no checks at all, from experience i say the paranoia of cheating is the main thing here over real cheats! everyone who has got to a certain standard in the game has had hack calls

a good player is much less likely to call hacks without watching that person for a good while in spectator, where as the masses just call hacks everytime they get shot thru a wall or whatever, so yeh thats why i say its just the possibility of hacks that ruins it for most people, the bad players and the good lol - it did hurt the fps scene on the pc pretty hard and made it less fun ><

I agree and get called a hacker all the time. In just about everything I play seriously I get called a hack. It's not paranoia in my case as I know there's just some seriously good players having played games in leagues at a high level over the years. Me and my mate used to catch and get hackers banned a lot by the way of spec videos or just by following them to catch them out on video.

Last month I done some ff14 online and it's pretty good. Mouse and keyboard is still king here but the ps4 interface is pretty good.

I've always thought kids play on consoles and real gamers play on PC ?

I always thought proper gamers use all platforms to play the best games..

The uncharted series is hands down one the best series ever made. You don't play console your loss..
Fifa games have much bigger player base so gaming on console with fifa is much better. On pc you get matched to much with guys outside the UK resulting in some games lagging.
The ps4 has games design for younger kids but so does the pc..

Well for me, anyone that doesnt use WASD shouldnt be taken very seriously, I've always been that way. I do have a PS4 but buy the odd game for quick 10 mins pick up and play games, and Pro Ev for the guys coming round for a tourney, anything I class as a real game I will play on PC.

Uncharted is indeed class.

I barely get enough time to game on PC, let alone trying to squeeze a load of console games in as well. And i dont even have a job to contend wirh.

I play FPS games on PC and buy all my games on the PC.. The PS4 and Ps3 is the girlfriends, but that don't stop my playing the console exclusives and games that benefit from using the controller.

A Gamer is someone who enjoys all games no mater the platform. But also sees what each platform as the advantage over each other..

I work 40 hours a week and manage!

Eh? So you play a lot of Sims do you? Or how about barbie dream house party ( yes i had to google that one)?
After all your not a gamer if you dont enjoy all games apparently.

I'm a PC gamer. I never claimed to be a multiplatform gamer.

I am a PC gamer, I play mostly on PC but that dont stop me from playing on console when I want to.. It dont make me any less a gamer, its makes me more the gamer..
