How do you use the fuel scoop btw? I've read that you need to be close but not too close to certain stars!?!?

@JHeaton cracking! :D Nice to see there is a bit of civility even in pirates these days! :p

To be honest, every player who has interdicted me has been nothing but polite. I just disappointed them all because they happened to stop me when I had no cargo whatsoever. :p

With regards to fuel scooping, I'm not sure what the distance is, but the scoop automatically deploys when you're close enough to the star, at which point you get a couple of bars showing heat levels, fuel amount and scoop rate. As long as you make sure your heat level is always below 150%, you should be fine. You can only scoop from stars of types A, B, F, G, K, O and M, however. It takes a bit of practice, but you get used to doing it safely after a while.

For the first time ever, I drop some cargo. Witchhaul Kobe Beef seems like a reasonable "gift" for my assailant, so I jettison one unit. He asks if it would be marked stolen. I guess so? Picks it up and sure enough, it is. Says I can keep it. Being the kind-hearted victim I am, I drop another, selecting the abandon option this time. He says that is marked stolen, too(??! - in hindsight, I wonder if maybe he picked up the same canister again, but I'm pretty sure I saw him go towards the fresh one on my radar). Says I can keep both, he's going to bed, and thanks me for my time, before flying away.

Politest.Pirate.Ever. :)

When fuel scooping i approach the star so its edge is seen in my top left corner, the fuel scoop engages and I maintain supercruise until it hits a decent refuel rate and then throttle right down. What you find is (providing you arent pointing straight into the star) the temp will likely stay the same and then start dropping but your refuel rate will stay the same, all whilst you are at minimal speed. You need to experiment with your speed and heading in relation to the star before throttling back, my best rate was holding a 70 refuel rate at 99% temp whilst zero throttle.

Be wary there is a slight risk of being interdicted but I've only had this happen once whilst fuel scooping.

Switched back to a Hauler from an Adder (which seemed to get interdicted a lot) last night, decent range and capacity for a lot less money spent on it. Will just be saving up for a Cobra now before getting enough for a T6.

Made a trip to Sol as well. :)

This is my plan of action - did a round trip of the rares run posted a few pages back by Legend and got myself up to around 800,000cr and bought my Cobra last night! :D

The only issue is the cargo capacity is obviously limited in the Hauler and so I found myself only collecting the rares from the first couple of stations before I was full - cracking profits to be made even with just those though!

Get to a T9 and you can make 1 mill every 10 mins with ease :D

Hmmmm, 76,555,842cr.....

Cheap at half the price! (actually it would be, never really understood that saying - surely should be cheap at double the price!) :D

There is a chance it might take me a while to get there my friend! :p

I hate how sluggish the T6 is. Something tells me a T9 would make me cry... :p

Personally, I think my ultimate goal is either the Python or the Imperial Clipper. After that, I can't see myself wanting any of the other current ships. So I'd probably just keep one of those two and an Eagle around, then wait to see what new ships are added later on.

Have 9m in assets currently. Long way to go. :o

I like the idea of exploring space and just flying around, so I'm interested in picking this up.

Can I play this with a control pad?

I don't mind using a keyboard and mouse, but I prefer using a controller.

A few people I knew took this path;

10 minutes of using a keyboard and mouse - they go crazy

8 hours of using a control pad - they go crazy

They buy a HOTAS setup.

:D

I was quite happy just flitting about the game in my Cobra till I tried to take on a Anaconda NPC and got cut to shreds in seconds.... Then I decided I was getting an Anaconda and nothing would stop me.... A long slog but I got there.

This was me all over! (although i went crazy in less than 10 minutes iirc! :p)

Thrustmaster HOTAS X is perfect for me - not too pricey but a quality piece of kit!

360 pad when on laptop, X52 when on desktop, only do trade runs using the pad though, no combat, just run away when interdicted :D

I bought the X52 (or the wife did for my Birthday) at the same time I got the game, so I have not experienced it on a 360 pad or keyboard and by the sounds of it, I don't want to :D

Fwiw I'm using a 360 controller and its no problem.

Question for the HOTAS users - can you use an X55 Rhino without the throttle as a joystick only (if you wanted to)?

EDIT - Apparently you can.

With the X55, they're their own units, separate USB cables so yes, you can use them separately.

What route were you running and how much cargo can you carry? I've been doing rares in a T6 (only 88T). I'm told it's not optimal, but to be honest, it's more fun than jumping between points A and B, for me. It's netting around 1m on each half of the circuit, for me. I didn't time myself but I was taking it casually; the biggest pain is waiting for restocks, I guess.
I have 48t in a Cobra mk3 its just so time consuming not sure its much faster/profitable than another route I found making 55,000cr per trip in about 10 mins so 300,000cr per hour roughly.
