Depends entirely on the access points you're using. A lot of them have a way of classifying the devices based on OS signatures and diverting them to different VLANs, applying different firewall rules, or deauthing them.
There is a couple of cheap ones there at the moment but as long as the cost isnt too prohibitive then we would happily change them out to something suitable. Can you suggest one that may be able to do it and I'll take a look at the instructions.
Its in a business centre which charges a small amount for each broadband connection and people are trying to therefore connect to the wifi which is just a complimentary thing.
Its not about trying to make money off it either, the wifi is restricted to slower speeds so when people connect to it they end up moaning that its slow etc so thought if there was a solution that wouldn't allow computers to connect it would solve it completely.
