I sold an R9 290 on Ebay on the 3rd of this month and just yesterday (nearly 3 weeks after sale) the buyer asked for a full refund as the item was faulty, he vaguely mentioned a blackscreen but didn't mention much else. The item was refurbished by XFX and was factory sealed.

So here's the question, do i let him return it and send it back to XFX (again) or tell him to contact XFX about the issue as it's from them?

Thanks

You're the seller, it's your job to sort it out. If you don't, paypal will just refund him anyway.

Hope you've taken lots of pics prior to the sale with serial numbers etc.

Yep, I always take thorough pictures of items I sell on Ebay just for situations like this. Just kinda struggling financially and this is one more thing I didn't need.

Ask for it back, refund him. Video yourself taking the package, and opening it. If the serial number is different then at least you have proof that you didn't swap it over and that is how he sent it.

He's been a bit vague about the issues which leaves me skeptical, might ask him some more about it before I decide on anything

This is eBay at the end of the day... he's probably using a PSU that can't adequately power the card, or some kind of stupid connection issue that you'll spend days trying to diagnose politely only for him to lose the rag over "why [he] should have to do all this when you sent [him] faulty goods."

Best to just refund, take it back and test it yourself tbh.

Had issues similar to this on the past.

Ask for more details of the fault and if they still insist it's faulty ask for them to send it back at their expense so you can test it. State that if it turns out not to be faulty then you can send it back to them again at their expense or issue a refund. Make sure you do all the messaging on eBay, as eBay have peeps that monitor messages about faulty/missing items.

Have a look here for more info

Make sure you let him know that you are clued up and before confirming that you will accept it back confirm the serial number with him of the item you sent and are expecting back.

If hes trying to pull a fast one then he knows he might have a fight on his hands and might get caught out. Suddenly you might not hear from him again

Otherwise it might be broken as he says

This is one of those situations were taking a little less money and selling on the OCUK MM would have been best, I can't stress how fantastic the OCUK MM is. Get yourself up to the 1000 posts OP, it's well worth it :)

good shout although I havent sold on there only bought, very trusty place that MM:D

This is why I hate ebay these days, buyers have way too much protection, I rather throw away a good piece of kit then sell it these days, as its lot less hassle and some scammer wont get something for free.

He might have even overclocked it and killed it in the process, ask for more info and for him to send the item back at his cost.

Ask him for more details. Then ask him to send it back so you can confirm the serial numbers and test the faults he described.

ah yes, selling computer parts on ebay

BE WARNED

people on ebay DO NOT know ANYTHING about computers

The amount of times I get emails back weeks later saying x is faulty and I'm a compter expert blah blah blah. One guy even said the case I sold him was faulty!!!! LOL

lol reminds me when I sold the PC, and the guy tried to make out it was broken when it arrived. I asked for photos but the damage was too small to photograph, he said he was a MP and it would be in my best interest to refund him.
