I was bidding on an item on ebay, I was winning and it had over a day left to run but its disappeared, not in any lists as didnt win or ended or anything.

Any ideas?

not much of an auction if you can withdraw at any time!!

There was no buy it now price either

People do it all the time. Sometimes the seller gets contacted and they deal outside of ebay, other times it's not getting as much interest as they hoped so they remove the auction.

I'm pretty sure you cant withdraw an item from auction if it has bids on it without the bidder agreeing too.

when a listing has disappeared like that its usually ebay that has cancelled the item due to some kind of infringement, if a seller just cancels a listing its still searchable afaik

I messed up a few months back and used eBay to try and sell an iPhone after not using it for a year or two.

I put up the iPhone for auction only, 7 days.

2 Days in I got an decent offer locally so I agreed to the sale and went to remove the listing.

Turns out, once the auction has been live for more than 24 hours you can only end it if you pay the final value fees of the current bid!

The auction had already reached about £400, as it was past the 24 hour threshold, even though there was still 4 days left, if I wanted to cancel the listing I had to pay final value fees! This meant the ebay listing cost me over £40 in the end and I didn't even sell to an eBayer.

Didn't know this

spoke to ebay - listing was removed as the seller said the item was damaged!! He still had to pay the listing fees, now it is back re-listed with now 6 days left to run and it starts all over again - no good for me as I wanted it for the weekend (and I would have still purchased it with the damage as it was only the built in dvd that didnt work!)

Crazy system, I am really starting to hate ebay

I have had things listed on forums as well as Ebay, so if it sells via a forum then I pull the Ebay listing and consider myself fortunate that I have not had to pay their fees.
