Can't remember the name of a US Sci-Fi TV series

I remember watching an American Sci-Fi TV series on BBC2 (I think) at about 6pm on a weekday. The basic premise was that the Americans had a secret research department that had discovered how to travel through time. The time travelling agent would have to be tied into a chair in a gyro frame thing that allowed for motion on all three axis. Because of the pain of time travel the Americans realised that they'd need someone who could take the pain and for that they found an ex-solider, perhaps special forces, who was in a mental institution. They fished him out and he showed he could take the pain whereas other potential agents had given up ages before.

He'd then travel forward in time, find out information or carry out a mission for his bossess, then travel back in time. I particularly remember one episode where things went wrong and he was stuck in a loop and it drove him mad.

The research scientist in charge of the project was in a wheelchair and he had an assistant who was an attractive young woman with the US military seconding some senior soldier(s) to watch over the whole project.

I think this was on TV sometime between late 90s (i.e. 1998 at the earliest) until 2002-03. I don't think it was a particularly good TV series and never caught on so it may have only had one series. Can anyone suggest some names of potential matching shows? :)

Hi Eames. It did. It isn't Sliders. I've just bought seasons 1 and 2 second hand cheap off Amazon. :D I can't remember the story of Sliders but the time travelling agent in the series I've forgotten went through time on his own. There was no ensemble cast travelling with him.

Doesn't sound like Sliders - or atleast wasn't the theme in the first few episodes I don't think I stuck with it longer than that.

Well done MonkeyBasher. :) That took 14 minutes! Apart from me forgetting they went back in time and not forward I was fairly spot on with my clues eh!

Thanks. Will look and see if I can get some of that on DVD.

I had never heard of that show until I started searching for it 14 mins ago. ;-)

I got a bit worried my skills would fail me when this thread reappeared on page 2 of my search results.

As someone who loves all sci-fi I am very surprised I totally missed this one, especially as it did air on the BBC. I initially thought it might be a misremember / dreamed about episode of the outer limits.

Well, looks like I'm gonna have to watch Sliders again now.

Q Ball, Dr Aturo, Crying Man Rembrandt Brown and Wade's adventures used to be superb!

Not seen this show.
Here is a link on youtube:

I have seen Sliders, however and that was a great show (they used to show it on BBC2@6PM).

I enjoyed watching it at the time of broadcast, I seem to recall it was cancelled/ended around the time of the 9/11 twin towers because of the similarities... but I could be wrong.

loved sliders shame it went south last season or 2 and if I recall no one got home or just did not care in end lol

Not heard of this show thought it was 12 monkeys for a sec but then id wake up in the future :)
