I remember watching an American Sci-Fi TV series on BBC2 (I think) at about 6pm on a weekday. The basic premise was that the Americans had a secret research department that had discovered how to travel through time. The time travelling agent would have to be tied into a chair in a gyro frame thing that allowed for motion on all three axis. Because of the pain of time travel the Americans realised that they'd need someone who could take the pain and for that they found an ex-solider, perhaps special forces, who was in a mental institution. They fished him out and he showed he could take the pain whereas other potential agents had given up ages before.
He'd then travel forward in time, find out information or carry out a mission for his bossess, then travel back in time. I particularly remember one episode where things went wrong and he was stuck in a loop and it drove him mad.
The research scientist in charge of the project was in a wheelchair and he had an assistant who was an attractive young woman with the US military seconding some senior soldier(s) to watch over the whole project.
I think this was on TV sometime between late 90s (i.e. 1998 at the earliest) until 2002-03. I don't think it was a particularly good TV series and never caught on so it may have only had one series. Can anyone suggest some names of potential matching shows?
