*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

The nintendo exclusives are expensive
I managed to pick up zelda wind waker off that popular auction site for £27 like new
I tend to stick to that auction site and check for deals on here or hukd especially when it comes to wiiu titles

I was seriously thinking about getting a Wii U, boredom and wanting to catch up with some Zelda/Mario games since I've really not played either since N64 era. Are the major games, Mario/Zelda games cheap anywhere at any point or do they always retain their value and so while the console is cheap the games aren't even if you're going back to 3-4 year old games?

Is there some trove of cheap second hand Nintendo games just at a store I don't know about or are Nintendo games just very expensive, their own e-store from a quick glance looks poorly priced except for stupidly old games like Mario bros 2/3 for $5 a piece.

From a quick look around some random game stores and Amazon, Windwaker HD/Skyward Sword are absurdly expensive, £57 new, £40+ used and barely available anywhere. Mario Galaxy 1/2 are still £18 new and out of stock everywhere I checked used though used costs being the same price anyway. Mario 3d World is £40 new despite being over a year old and used game price is £30+ and not in stock anywhere except Amazon(used copies not in stock).

I'm used to PC pricing in particular but PS4 a bit and in both you expect older games to be pretty easy to find and the price to tank, with both download and retail versions of games on sale pretty frequently when still pretty new. Is Nintendo living in it's own little bubble where none of that applies and games are just expensive, then stay expensive, then seemingly disappear?

Two things: good games hold their price, and cheap games only are profitable when they are sold in volume. Wii games don't really sell in volume, plus nobody wants to sell the good ones.

Why Nintendo games are still expensive

I game on PC and Wii (plus Vita and 3DS) and I still think the Wii games are good VFM.

Well, except the eShop prices. They are just stupid.

Hmmm, somewhat putting me off then, not too sure really. I hadn't really thought about it but I take it a bunch of the Wii games need a Wiimote. A quick look and something like Skyward seems to require the Wiimote plus, I presume it needs a nunchuck as well but, though I honestly don't know if it does. Did most games need the nunchuck as well or just the Wiimote, did most people use both? Either way that seems to be another £45 new for both.

Yeah, £180 for console plus game didn't seem cheap exactly just not overly expensive but in my mind that also meant being able to pick up loads of old cheap games that I've missed over the years. But it seems like it will be lots of old, hard to find, expensive games or new easier to find... very expensive games :p

One thing I don't really get is, with all the expensive mario games, why is New Super Mario Bro's cheap by comparison, is it stupidly short or something?

Wii games can only be played with Wii controllers, and you will also need a nunchuck to play the vast majority of the best Wii games as many require it (incl. Skyward Sword).

When you choose to play a Wii game on Wii U, the console will switch/reboot to Wii mode (it has wii hardware built in), so just think of it like a separate console almost.

On the plus side, a number of Wii U games support Wii controllers (e.g. mario bros u, mario 3d world, mario kart 8, smash bros, DK, Pikmin etc).

Cant find a wind waker hd thread
Just got this and enjoying it (need to find a good guide but thats for another day)
But can i ask a question, if i complete the game can i then go round and carry on exploring the world or if i beat the last level boss is that it.. No going back?

Just got my Wii U Pro controller, gonna start playing some Mario Kart and Smash bros (May also get an official GC adapter if Nintendo stocks them since I still have 2 GN controllers.). Looking forward to getting some gaming done this weekend.

I believe you can still go wherever you want after finishing it. You won't be finishing it in a rush though. Ive not been back to it since I beat it, it's one of those games when you're done you're done, imo.

Where did you get your controller from? Was it cheaper than £40?

Just ordered Mario 3d World and DKCR:TF. Slowly been buying up the games that i have wanted for a while on WiiU and 3DS also. Just want to get Captain Toad now and i think i will be done for a bit until Xeno X, Kirby, Zelda and maybe Yoshis wooly world. One day i may even find time to play them all, my current pile of shame is shocking.
