Gelid icy vision 2

Just looked at those enhancement kits and expected to see a different mounting bracket but there isn't, so I'm getting the holes lined up wrong. I've tried every combination (without using different hole placements for each corner). Might order the kit but in the meantime need to get this on and see what it's like without it. A few lads have installed this cooler on this card so hoping one of you see this. Please advise before pc is thrown out of window lol

Hey guys a little help please. So my gelid came today and there was no silver strip with it. I have used thermal pads instead on the long vrm and have used different vrms as the bigger one was a pain. Anyone know which mounting holes I have to use for the standoffs?
You mean the standoffs for the mount bracket?

I just took this picture of my Gelid (was previous on my 290x), not sure if it will help you.

Thanks mate that's exactly what I mean. I've tried them in that position and can't get the corners to match up. :(
I've just removed the bracket and one of the standoff to have a look, and it woud seem that for those 4 inner holes for the standoffs, each of the holes is actually "long holes" with two possible mounting position, so I would advise to to use just the bracket (don't mount onto the heatsink yet) and standoffs and test fit it with the holes on the PCB of the graphic card. One of my standoff is actually slightly differ in position to the other three.

Thanks mate that helped a lot. It's together now and I'm gonna put it into pc shortly. I hope the card doesn't fail because I used different vrms instead of the long incomparable one. Will post soon thanks

Ok well its boot first time and fans are spinning, the temp is 31. But i am worried about the VRM temps.

So I just ran GPUZ and checked sensors. It says VRM 1 - 30 and VRM 2 - 35. Is this ok then?

Ok guys played BF4 for 15 mins and I think the VRM 1 needs changing. VRM 2 hit just 55 over 15 mins, but VRM 1 hit 88. What do you guys think? Also does anyone know any UK sellers from the Kit, they all seem to be USA

Yea sounds similar to the temp I had before GPU wise, but the VRM1 is higher than mine...but I did have one of the big Alpenföhn vrm sink. Not exceeding 90C is good, but it should be fine up to 100C...but beyond that...not so good.

The thing about these type of cooler (that goes for AIB custom coolers) is that whilst they are much better at cooling the GPU than the reference blower type cooler, they don't cool the VRM1 as effective, and the VRM1 don't actually get cooler by cool air, but the hot air from the heatsink which the fan blow into, in contrast to blower cooler the VRM1 is actually the first thing the cool air pass through, before reaching the main heatsink.

Believe it or not, some AIB graphic cards (not referring to strictly to the 290/290x) with custom coolers can have the VRM1 hitting beyond 100C.

Wow thats unreal mate that some get that hot. Do you think I would benefit from the enhancement kit for the bigger heatsink? I can't find it in stock in the uk, although I did find it coming in stock in 2 weeks at one place in the UK and its cheap enough.

Edit - I just ordered it for 2 weeks time. At least I will have the right size sinks then hehe

If you can source the enhancement kit cheap enough, then sure. Otherwise, at sub 90C I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Just be extra careful when using SuperSampling or VSR (which both features actually render at higher resolution and then scale back down to enhance image quality)...they stress the card far more thus higher power consumption, and it would result in much higher temp on the VRM1 than MSAA on 1920 res. Running the Sleeping Dogs bench with Extreme AA (which is essentially SuperSampling AA), with the Alpenföhn vrm sink I've seen VRM1 hitting as high as 106C, despit running Metro2033 Bench on loop the max temp I've seen on the VRM1 was around 60-70C.

Also to help with keeping the temp of your graphic card down, make sure you use frame rate limiter (if you don't use vsync) to limit your max frame rate to not exceed the refresh rate of you monitor, or your graphic card will be rendering extra frames that wouldn't even be shown on your display, and unnecessarily increasing the load, power consumption and temp of your card.
