Yeah, can be frustrating in the beginning - well, it never stops being frustrating. You just get used to it.

I had a bug of some kind with the Galaxy map not seeming to recognise my ship upgrades. Made a lot of changes to my ship to jump further but Galaxy map wasn't recognising the fact changes to ship.

So when planning journey in Galaxy map, it would make more jumps than necessary. However, using the right hand panel I could jump straight to places the Galaxy map would double jump to.

are you sure it was a bug and not you having 'economical' not 'fastest' ticked on the galaxy map before plotting since econ will make many short jumps.

This.

If you don't switch from economical to fastest then the nav computer will still plot many short jumps instead of a smaller number of long ones.

Finally ******G SUSSED IT.

It's a bug. I've just hunted all over the frontiers boards. Apparently it can happen when you drop out of FSD. Your target gets lost and you have to find an escape vector. The only reason I found it was because I saw another blue dot pop up on my scanner that wasn't the target I was aiming at. So I went for broke and turned my ship towards that and there it was - a blue escape vector.

My temps were 200% when I became freed of the restriction and I thought I was going to blow. I'm back to normal again now and in supercruise.
.
Excellent work in finding your problem.
The only time I needed to find the escape vector is when I forget to pull away from the star straight after hyperspace and my SC cuts out (and as I'm so close to the sun I take heat damage).
Like others have said I make sure my throttle is at zero as I'm jumping to make sure I only travel at 30km (the slowest you can go in SC) when I exit, so I then have forever to work out my next manoeuvre.

Currently lurking in BD+03 2338. Only been interdicted once. Kinda disappointed, to be honest. More disappointed that the commander in question was too much of a coward to open fire on me with his big ship, instead trying to ram me. Some people. :o

I must look suspicious as hell, just floating around at 30km/s, but nobody is biting. :(

Tempted to dock and buy a FSD interdictor, but I'm already pushing it with power. :p

Edit: Well, managed to stay there for three hours in total. Only when I went back to get my Asp was I actually stopped again and ask to leave the system or else go on the KoS list. Apparently, Eagles are much less conspicuous targets. :p

Anyone using the new supersampling option my framerate dies a death if I increase it, we need the long anticipated AMD driver and a crossfire profile.

Morning all,

Apologies for the grouchiness last night. I was getting properly frustrated with the issues I was having. I just couldn't seem to see any way out of the problem. I'd already blown one ship full of cargo up and for it to happen again really ****** me off...

** If you must swear please fully star the word **

The fact there is no obvious solution to this makes it even more annoying. So I'll explain it here.

Long post alert:

I'd already been experimenting with this as soon as I learned in here that I could plot a course. The ships GPS seems to want to jump you far too many times and I did wonder if I could simply alter the plot slightly by doing my own jumps to sorten the trip..

Yes. I was on the Frontier boards last night for about 90 minutes (whilst my ship was stuck in space) and found a few threads regarding this issue. Apparently (according to the posters) it's a glitch that can sometimes happen when your FSD disengages.

The issue is a bit similar to when you get interdicted and you chase the escape vector to get away. However I wasn't interdicted and what they said was this:

When you drop out of FSD in to a star system on a plotted course, if you change your target (for whatever reason - an unknown signal etc) and then change your target back to your intended jump, it can confuse the game/route plot mechanics etc. So when you initiate your FSD to jump again, instead of simply engaging it overheats your ship to the point of explosion and asks you to 'Align with Escape Vector'.

The first time this happened, I was utterly clueless and blew my ship up because what it was asking didn't seem rational or obvious as there wasn't an escape vector anywhere to be seen! Quite simply I thought my ship was knackered because I couldn't do anything.

So when it happened again I looked on the Frontiers boards, and after seeing a lot of people had experienced this issue, I attempted to give it one last go and see if I could find 'this' escape vector (I still wasn't convinced this my problem).

However, on intiating FSD whilst pointed at a station in the system, my blue target on the radar disappeared and was replaced by another off to the side. My ship was at 200% temp when I found the blue escape vector and lined up with it. I went for broke and throttled forward to engage and it freed me.

I'll stress here that the escape vector ONLY shows up when you throttle forward to engage the jump. Simply activating FSD just overheats your ship and you'll explode, so you need to throttle forward and find the escape vector - rapidly...! Otherwise it's curtains.

Like I said, the consensus over on the Frontiers boards is that it's a glitch or bug that happens now and again. I was just extremely unlucky for it to happen twice.

This.

Yes, I realised this when I started using the plot computer last night. I'm going to use fastest route from now on.

Thanks. It's a pain in the ass. I didn't take any heat damage from the star though (on either occasion). I simply dropped in to a system, turned and flew away from the star until my temps had dropped to 50% and then tried to carry on. However, because the game had vector locked me (for whatever reason), the moment I tried to jump, my temps went through the roof and nearly blew me up again. That was when I got grouchy and started investigating because I had a full cargo of Fujin Tea and Touri Charms..

Anyways, it worked out in the end. I hit the vector and got in to SC and docked at a station. Refueled and repaired the heat damage (2K - a lot for me). Got to Orrere late on and sold my cargo for 280k. WOW

Now bought a full cargo of Orrere beer (or whetever) and will flying back shortly.....

Once again, apologies for the shortness in my responses last night and thanks for all the help, it's very much appreciated :)

Just press J on keyboard as soon a s FSD kicks in you will see the escape vector on the compass, make a rough note of direction on compass, press J again, FSD off, navigate to rough position, rinse and repeat until lined up, that way you will not generate heat.

(Substitute J with your FSD engage button, click, whatever)

Interdiction really needs either disabling or tweaking for Solo.

EVERY single time I do a rare run now it always happens at the final system where you cash your rares in & dock :( Not only that the attacks seem to be getting fiercer  Last night I got hit twice whilst being interdicted which took 66% of my shields away & I only just escaped so came close to losing a cargo full of Rares....

This is on Solo BTW I can understand in open play but Solo really FD thats just an artificial way to extend gameplay IMO.

What ship are you in? Cobra is best if you are stripping out shields/weapons and doing Rare runs, as it's so fast no ships can touch you. I get interdicted all the time, and they barely even have time to get a shot off before I've boosted away, allowing time for FSD to recharge, then I'm in to hyperdrive again. It becomes a mild frustration after a while, but I'm never in any danger of being destroyed. :)

Do you know, I never thought of doing that at the time. It makes perfect sense really. I was in such a frustrated rush to escape that I threw caution to the wind and went for it.

If it happens again, I'll certainly do that. Just keep hitting FSD to find it and line up then wait for my temps to cool and go for it without messing around.

Cheers

Regarding a point someone mentioned last night when I was struggling (he thought I'd upgraded badly when I hadn't and thought it may have been a contributory factor to my overheating issues).

What is a good setup for a Cobra (trade wise) when I get one?

I am in a Cobra with no shield generator/weapons it does not always outrun if your carrying a large amount of Rare cargo I find the ship to be sluggish to handle so making the Interdiction escape vector is way tougher.

Something isn't right there... fully laden (56T) I have no issues getting away. Maybe you have down level thrusters or something. The boost on the Cobra is crazy, fastest in the game and easy to get away from anything.

I have mine stripped out, no weapons or shields, can't recall exactly what power unit etc. I have, but I have put a fair bit of money in to it, so they are all high grade. That probably does make all the difference, but once you have it outfitted correctly, it's an amazing ship.

Got rid of the Class A battle Cobra just could not get on with it, really disliked how the 2nd hardpoints are so far apart they miss everything unless its 10km out.

I eventually found a...half-solution to this. I ran one C2 and one C1 beam on one side, then C2 and C1 multi-cannons on the other. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better than the setup I started out with which was like yours. The Viper's hardpoint placement is way better, but obviously the ship has very limited uses.

Just wait until you can afford an Asp. The six hardpoints she has are so, so well-placed. :3
