Buying a 290x from MM

Anything I should be aware of when buying a 2nd hand 290x?

Any brands I should stay away from?

not that ive seen, i guess u can always be unlucky but they not clocked super high like the nv's so im guessing its less likely

Yes.

The 'X-Edition' (VTX3D?) is just a 290 clocked a bit higher. Less streaming processors that a full 290X.

The 970 is much more expensive than the 290x. Retail price must be higher I guess.

2nd hand especially, there's more of a saving to be had with the 290 / 290X.

Maybe people are realising the 290 series is great vfm and 4GB means 4GB unlike a certain NVIDIA card, so no point switching until new cards come.

May have to consider brand new if I can't get one cheaper 2nd hand. Seems to be about £250 though!
