“Don’t be complainers. Try to understand this stuff. Here’s the deal, there is two things, one is the DLC that is a small amount of content that enables you to use some new guns, skins etc. This is usually to personalize the game to those who want. The other is the expansion, what is an expansion? Well, it’s an expansion. It enlarge the game. This is not necessary for the game. The game is always delivered complete to you guys, we guarantee. All the expansions that we deliver has more things that we spent more time of the team developing. You like the game? Want more? You don’t need to wait for the next game, there is an expansion with more adventure, more content, more everything.

Just stop complaining. Really, guys. This comes from me not directly from Ubisoft, just stop complaining about everything. Wait for a moment, think about what you’re going to say… We develop fun, but this is a business. Stop and think about it, we develop fun, if we invest more time and money to it, our team needs to get paid”

The thread title is a cut and paste from NeoGas so excuse the spelling lol

"This comes from me not directly from Ubisoft"

Nope, you work for Ubisoft and this is in reference to their games. You are responsible for your voice and so is Ubisoft, anything from your mouth on these matters is also from Ubisoft..

I think this guy is likely to be sacked...

most dlc takes minutes to make and then costs stupid money but shut up.
all the expansions? oh ofcourse they aren't on the drawing board from the start as part of the project plan.
we don't even sell season passes....

What you get is the full game.. oh wait.....

Is Ubisoft's DLC actually that bad?

Creaming cash from the "whales" who buy all the skins and junk is fine by me: subdidises game development. Expansions are fine too: if you don't like the game, then don't buy expansions. If you do like it, then buy some more.

Ubisoft's mistake is realeasing their games as a buggy mess. Complain about that, not the DLC.

Honestly their DLC doesn't look that bad looking at the Steam pages for the big titles. Seems like a bunch of skins, a few mission packs for about a fiver each and a bigger expansion for about £10. Hardly anything to complain about.

I think there needs to be a clear demarkation between DLC and add-on packs.

New levels, content and story = DLC.
New weapons, skins, hats (sigh) = add ons.

Sooner those two are separated, the better.

No it doesn't
When I say DLC I mean micro transactions like gun and character skins.

you know they take minutes and editing a weapons config file takes about the same.

The kind of stuff they expect people to pay for is the kind of crap that used to be modded in minutes.

When skyrim came out I did a deathstar moon mod in about 5 seconds

Years ago dlc was called an expansion pack. You bought a complete game then 6 months to a year later they would release the expansion pack which was practically a full game in its own right.

Now we have companies developing dlc along side the game, using it as day one, and pre order bonuses. Deliberately leaving content out of a game so it can be sold later for far more than its worth.

Add micro transactions and the whole thing stinks of greed.

When all the dlc combined costs more than the game you know something is wrong and all you are buying is the "base game"
It's certainly not a full game developed as a stand alone title

total war: atilla waited 4 days before releasing the first dlc for 5.99 and that's not counting the pre order dlc that's also 5.99
I know it's not ubisoft but shows the state of gaming

I think it depends whether the dlc and expansions are announced with the initial game and how large / full the original game is on its own. If the original game feels paired down and rushed out then it will feel like a con to have to buy extra. It just depends whether there is an attitude of just getting enough done to make the title sell without going the extra mile.
