im trying to translate a Korean phrase for a friend who wants to use it as a tattoo (I know).

Basically it goes - land exists, the sky exists. Sadness exists, happiness exists. And is basically saying you can't have one without the other.

I'm not good at making pretty language so can anyone here suggest a way of prettying it up?

The best I got was 'As the sky needs the earth to exist, happiness needs sadness'

Pretty rubbish.

Here's a couple:

Sky above me,
Earth below me,
Happiness and sadness within me.

You can not walk the Earth, without walking under the sky,
You can not hide from sadness, without hiding from happiness.


Tell your friend all the cool Western kids use Asian languages for tattoos. :D
 
isn't this just ying and yang?
