Hi Guys, not posted for a while but you've always been helpful!

I recently bought the tv in the title, it's a great tv but when i've tried using the aux output to connect it to my amplifier, no sound is produced. I've tried using two different fully working amps (rotel and an arcam) and looking at all the settings etc. The cables are definitely good too.

The conclusion was that the tv was faulty so ive had another delivered on warranty but its still not outputting sound.

Please Please help, it's quite upsetting as the sound out of the tv's speakers is'nt very good

Is there an option in one of the menus to output sound from that connection? I have a samsung and im sure thheres an option to turn the optical out on or off.

Looking at the manual - CLICK ME.
There's a section called "Connecting - Digital Audio", that suggests changing the settings under TV Sound Output > Sound > Speaker Settings > TV Sound Output.
Have you had a look at this section?

My guess is that the sockets on the TV you're connecting to are not an output. You haven't read the TV manual or the labelling on the socket. It's labelled "....... IN" and you've assumed that it's an OUT. Not all red and white phono sockets are the same.

The user manual and the Samsung web site are both clear on the subject. For sound out with your particular TV model there are two recommended connections. Both are digital: HDMI (ARC) and Optical. Neither of these are any use to you with an analogue Hi-Fi amp.

There is also a headphone jack socket (3.5mm / iPod earbud plug size). This is analogue and can be used with your Hi-Fi amps. Check the manual whether there's a sub-menu for volume control though.

The Optical output can be converted to stereo phono with a box like this. The box has an optical input on one side, and stereo phono out on the other. There are lots of similar looking boxes on Amazon. The cheapest are sub £15 but the audio conversion quality leaves something to be desired. The CYP is more money because it's better, and it's still loads cheaper than a full-on DAC costing £100+

If you're going to use optical then read your manual. There's some menu changes needed to tell the TV to redirect the sound away from the speakers and to one of the digital outputs.

I don't say this very often but, I'M AN IDIOT!

Thanks for the info, you are correct, I never read the manual.....

I'll try the 3.5 when i'm next home :D
