I'm in the process of looking at cars in preparation for hopefully passing my test within the next few months

So as title I have about 3k to spend

I was also looking at buying new on finance but not sure if that's wise if I'm inexperienced :p

Ps I'm nearly 40 yrs old so not sure how that will affect any insurance

I think you will be better off buying something older just encase the worst happens.

Do you have any requirements? how many seats do you want? how much space etc?

Nah no requirements yet, just something that's reasonably low maintenance and not too sluggish

Petrol 1.6 Ford Focus. Cheap to insure run and maintain. Really reliable. Decent mpg, enough power for a newbie etc. should be able to get a low mileage 06 for 3k /Thread :p

Argh Keep looking at the fiesta St on finance

I know I should get some experience first with an older cheaper car but I really want one haha

Thats a pretty nice choice tbh, If you can afford it and can live with the risk of probably pranging a new car then go for it. If something bad did happen you'll be paying about the same on insurance regardless old or new.

On the other hand you could buy an older fiesta ST on your budget.

If you can insure the older Fiesta ST at a reasonable price, you can pick a decent one up now for 2.5k and spend the rest to put towards insurance/future maintenance.

I had one as my second car, awesome little cars they are.

Wouldn't get a new one though, get a year or 2 under your belt before spending big monies on cars.

Interesting, didn't know they were that cheap now!
