Something dawned on me last night as I was slowly morphing into a potato on the sofa in front of the TV.

I've not paid my TV licence, but I remember someone mentioning something about not paying it in an Annex...

Basically, I'm in a 'flat', which is basically a bungalow which backs onto a mansion (yep... pretty sweet deal) which is considered an annex. Am I indeed required to pay the licence or is it covered under the mansions licence?

It's 2 separate properties as far as post is concerned, so different address. I pay council tax etc as though its any old flat.

If I call up and say "Hey, it's just dawned on me and I moved in back in October last year", will I get thunder punched in the nads with a fine?

You need to pay it, and you would be best of just applying. Forget about October; you didn't hook your TV up until now.

Yes you should be paying, no point telling them you've been doing it.
If you want to be legal, just phone up and say you need a license as you started watching TV.

Do you have a lockable door between the 2? If so then yes technically you need a separate licence.

Also don't bother telling them when you moved in just start paying your licence from now, they'll never know, or just don't pay your licence at all if you want to live on the edge.

Aye, locked door between the 2 properties (well 2, back to back, locked my side and locked his).

Right then, I'll sign up today.

Thanks guys!

'I can see you are watching a black and white TV ;)' thats what the TV licence guy said to me - and clarified by saying 'just apply for one and you wont have a problem'.
True but true.

Last time one turned up at my current address I just played the 'only watch catch-up TV' clause, which we don't - cos only time we use it is when our grand-daughter watches it for DVD's... :D
The missus has watched around 4 hours of actual TV in the last 12 months so we're criminals - seriously... stupid BBC and their government backed enforcement makes a mockery of justice.
No doubt the new laws will force people to pay even if they don't watch it - cos lets face it there is only Top Gear.... :p

What should have dawned on you is the point of watching live TV when you can watch streaming services for free.

By sitting infront of a live TV you are likely watching stuff simply because nothing better is on

Hehe, they came round my house last month, my missus just said to them "I don't want any thing to do with your corrupt corporation" and shut the door, a week later they sent us a letter saying they respect our common law right and won't bother us again for 2 years.

Brother did something similar. He's stopped paying it and told them not to set foot on his property. No problems so far.

No they didn't :(

They're talking about "reforming" the TV license at the moment. The BBC are trying to get the government to not go for subscription based as no one would choose pay that much. The other options they're talking about are just taxing _every_ house if they have a TV or not.....

you can use a tv to listen to radio legally without paying a penny so to get caught not paying for a tv license would make you a really special kind of numpty.

Or a law-abiding citizen who considers the BBC to actually be worth the cost of the licence?

It isn't the law to have a TV license.
Its enforced by the communications act 2003.
An act is not a law, an act can only be actioned upon, if the citizen agrees to be subjected to its original intention (which you don't have to)
There is no LAW in the uk which requires a tv license, an act is not a law.

They just muddy the water to make it seem like you have no choice, and people pay it....

You've not said whether you watch live TV or not, given the ambiguity of the question, it's almost impossible to answer.

What is it with these anti tv licence people. They always seem so angry over it like it's stolen their first born or something.

I wonder how many people who have sky or Virgin subscriptions don't need a license .
