Rear Case fan as a Radiator

It works fine, the reason you don't see it so much these days is because you can usually get a 360mm in the roof and a 240mm in the front/bottom, so an extra 120mm after that isn't really worth the effort/cost.

Cheers ubersonic. planning a single loop system with two 240 rads, cooling a CPU and two SLIs. Had read on some sites that potentially need more cooling than that for this kind of config, hence question: would a single additional 120 help out or is it not worth the additional complexity to the loop. In the case I have this would represent the absolute maximum in terms of radiator capability (2 x 240 rad + 1 x 120 rad).

I think you are fine with cooling, however you will probably have to crank up the fan speeds when putting load on the cards.

So I guess if adding one into the loop would in effect make it equivalent to a 360 and 240 loop?

Actually, just worked out I can go one better with an additional 240 slim rad from XSPC EX range, instead of the 120 mentioned above. Could therefore get 3x240 into the case. Surely a goer.

Well from what inhave read on these forums you need 1x120mm of rad space for each component getting cooled in the loop plus 120mm rad extra. So in your case 2x240mm rads should be enough.

I am not an expert but I have read these forums :)

Has anyone ever mounted a single rear case fan as a radiator configuration, either in single or double push/pull fan config?

Like one of these installed at the rear of the case:

Apologies if a total noob question. I can't recall having seen it on any system builds.

I fastened a rad to back of my case with some modding and a standard 120mm fan inside the case attached to it . pics of it in my sig build . works great i get good temps, could have had the rad inside but thought it would look to bulky so opted to mod the case slightly

To be honest, if you could go with 280sx2, that would be more than enough.

I do have a 120mm mounted at the rear and .... I kinda regret it. Its a bugger to bleed the air out of it, the way and direction. It doesn't cool too much and really adds more restrictions which isn't beneficial .

Hey thanks can see your system link now. Cool! see what you mean about bringing it outside the case.

Have gone for the 3 x 240mm rads configuration (instead of 2x240 and 1x120) and will not implement the single 120 rear. It will cool a cpu and two graphics cards on a single loop, serial link between cards.

I have on mine, I did because it would use about the same space as a fan and also because it would make it easier for me to do tubing on my GPUs loop.
