nVidia Titans still worth the investment?

I can see why it'd be tempting but you'd be dropping the best part of £700 on a pair of older (albeit premium) cards. As much as you're not liking your 290 I'd personally hold onto it a bit longer and see what both manufacturers release in the next 6 weeks or so (hopefully). I think you'd soon regret the purchase.

Totally valid point!

The flip side to buying them would be selling them on if and when more details are released. They seem to still do quite well!

This to be honest.

Driver support point of view, it's not really worth it to get more older cards...

I am interested in picking up a titan. It and the 590 have been my 'poster cards" however I know the performance step up won't be noticeable from my 780.

Snips if you decide against it, and from an objective view I probably wouldn't go from 290 to titan then can you point me in the direction of the people selling. I really wanted in on Gregster's £300 card but he sold them all elsewhere.

I'm running a 290p and looking to change to nVidia. I'm considering a change to 2xTitan and I game at 1440p.

I love eye candy and having some serious thought about 4K but not until our attic has been converted, within 12-18 months.

I'm not really looking for an AMD alternative as I've had enough of the 290 - so thoughts on the Titans?

I've been saying this all of the years I've been into computers and trust me there have been many. 35 at last count.

When it comes to buying computer gear always spend the absolute most you can afford to spend. It's far cheaper and more sensible in the long run to save up and buy the best you can afford because it will stop you spending more money in the long run on upgrades to keep you in the loop.

For example. Greg bought two Titans at launch. He then got to sit back whilst Nvidia released, and probably isn't limited to -

GTX 780, GTX 780ti, GTX Titan Black, GTX 970, GTX 980 and anything AMD made during that time.

I've actually witnessed people first hand going through most of those yet skipping the Titan. Yet, had they bought a Titan they would still have it now and only really now would they have a viable excuse to even think about replacing them.

Now of course, YMMV, but at the end of the day if you class yourself as an enthusiast it's far cheaper in the long run to buy the best as it buys you a far bigger "don't need to upgrade" window.

I'm not happy about what Nvidia charge for Titan but as much as I hate the price there's no denying their prowess when they're released.

Titans were and are stonking cards. If you got one or more on release and kept them till now you've had a cracking investment. Still right near the top of performance charts (when OC'd) and pretty old.

And to think of all the stick the Titan early adopters got in here. Awks :o

I'd be looking to get 2, not one.

I understand where you're coming from but I don't think it's always about 'what you can afford'. There was no way I would spend close to £1k for a single GPU, it's just a ludicrous price (I know there are some bonuses to this card). My frame of mind is still like this, I don't really have the intention of buying a single £400-800 GPU but these cards are still incredible by all accounts and the fact I could potentially get 2 for the price of a single (despite being previous gen) would give me years and years of happy gaming.

So you'd rather do a Boom and spend £500 four times?

You asked for opinions, you got them.

^ I'm not sure whether it would actually give you "years of gaming" to be honest. Yeah they'll admirably cope with most games for a few years but I think you could very easily get an upgrade bug if we see any new tech (particularly with monitors and freesync/g-sync). I think for people who have owned them up until now they've been a good investment but now probably isn't the time to buy one.

Don't take it the wrong way mate, I wasn't saying your opinion was wrong. I was just giving a flip side.

I wouldn't spend it four times, it would be a one off and last a few years (hopefully longer)

Yeah, I'm getting that gist :(

Wow people confuse me. You start a thread asking if Titans are worth the investment yes?

nVidia Titans still worth the investment? to be exact.

I answer your question with my opinion and now you're giving me a flip side?

Yes, to the comment about purchasing new!

Why not go for 2 980's and have better resell value if something else comes out that you have to have?

Because I'd have issues spending 1k on 2 cards - I need reference coolers but the resale value is a good point!

Ah but here's the thing. With the Titan new tech does not mean better tech. Hence why the original Titan still hauls so much ass, because basically the techs released after it have been nowhere near as good.

Why would you upgrade to something worse if you had the best?

This is one thing which has been swaying me towards them!

If you want to go 4k soon then I think you'll be upgrading again no matter what you buy now.

980s will outperform Titans and the vram shouldn't be an issue at 1440p. Yes, they'll cost more but a second hand 980 will be more desirable than a second hand Titan a year or so from now.

Can't disagree there!
