Fifty Shades Of Grey costume row at school.

I agree. I haven't read the book either but isn't it about a woman exploring her sexuality in a consensual manner ?

I also think our young should be taught about relationships rather than the basic mechanics of sex

Honestly I have no idea what the books about. There's been a lot of talk about it but I just switch off. Some form of bdsm, I have no idea if it's consensual but I doubt they'd made a movie of it if it wasnt.

So where do we draw the line at censorship ? I read the Exorcist when I was 15 or 16 which was far more scary than the movie when I eventually got around to watch some 5 years later

O I'm surprised they made a movie then let alone the book being so popular .

Well I would say with responsible parenting but this thread proves its a fanciful idea at best.

Age ratings don't tend to work. Parents will still buy things for their kids even if it is illegal to do so.

"Liam was advised to dress as James Bond... but [he] was a promiscuous character who kills people," she said."

She has a point you know.

Indeed.

It's a stupid society which has a bigger issue with sex & nudity than murder & brutality.

It isn't exactly the most appropriate costume and the school probably did the right thing, but they've also made themselves look a bit stupid by allowing someone to turn up as a serial killer, and others to turn up with toy guns, etc. It seems odd that they would recommend this kid go dressed as James Bond, a murderer and misogynist, but draw the line at something sexual. I'm not condoning the costume because it's stupid to let your kid go dressed like that, but if the school was going to take a stand on this they should have at least been consistent.

Kid: "Hi mum, we have to dress as a character from a book next week"
Mum: "Oh thats nice, have you got any ideas?"
Kid: "They said James Bond maybe, but I don't like ties, Tims going as harry potter, could I go as a hobbit? Or maybe..."
The mothers eyes glaze over as she stares into the distance, her face blushes slightly and she crosses one leg over the other and shifts in her seat: "Christian Grey..."
Kid: "Grey? Whos that.... Oh no mum, not again!"

This argument against Bond doesn't really wash with me and I am suspicious of those saying they think it's just as bad....really?

Kids have long pretended to be police, soldiers, spies and action heroes. Toy guns and gadgets line the shelves of Toys R Us and have done for years.

I have never known any child play games where they pretend or act out sexual fetishes, toy bondage crops, restraints and eye masks are not made for children to play with for a good reason.

When I was his age I read The Rats and The Dark by James Herbert, both of which are considerably more explicit than 50 shades haha.

Graphically Violent and Graphic descriptions of sexual activity.

What I find interesting is we rate Films, TV and Video Games but Books are anyone's guess.
