nVidia Titans still worth the investment?

All the options are bad. Which is why no one can come up with an answer.

None of those cards will do the job 'adequately' at 4k.

We need next gen to make it more possible.

Neither, as I said, If you have waited this long to change, why change now when new cards are just a few months away? Especially in your case where you don't plan to upgrade again for a couple of years or more.

But, that's what I would do.

Yes, I would be waiting for the next round of cards, dependant on whether you have some thing decent to tide you over already.

I see you have a preference for Nvidia. Well then maybe just go and grab a 980. :D

Without wanting to be too pedantic, an investment involves the use of money in order to turn a financial profit. Using the word to try and make the purchase of expensive graphics cards seem more sensible is a little bit delusional :p

Yeah, I've had enough of my 290 and I'm moving on up :D

What are we looking at? 6 weeks until we know more?

Investment is time, energy, or matter spent in the hope of future benefits actualized within a specified date or time frame. Investment has different meanings in economics and finance.

Sounds about right, from wiki.

The only card coming from nVidia that I know of is the Titan X. News will be out in a couple of weeks at another event and not sure if it will be a paper launch or full launch.

AMD have a flagship GPU at GDC now but Gibbo has said June the earliest, so that is a little disappointing.

nVidia might well do a cut down TX and I fully expect them to but it still won't be cheap.

A rock and a hard place for you.

980 is fantastic but 1440P 4GB and longevity.... We need a crystal ball for that. Titan plus 6GB and longevity is a little easier to see that lasting and like I said, there isn't any games out that can cripple a pair of Titans at 1440P.

Yea you are right...basing on the 780 launched at £550-£650 vs the Titan at £830, the next 80/flagship mainstream card will still be 2/3 to 3/4 of Titan X's money (£1000~£1200+)...which would in the £680-£850 region...

They dropped the price of the 780 when the 780Ti launched to a very fair price, so in this instance and assuming the same will happen, I expect the 980 to drop in price and the cut down TX to come in at the same as the 980 is now or maybe a smidge more. Of course all speculation though and I could be ******* in the wind.

Thats what Im hoping for! My 980 is a bit lonely

As you want to go nvidia I say get two titans now and then sell and upgrade when 16nm stuff comes out.

I personally always go for price for performance and in the past it has always served me well. People would spend big money on going multi-gpu, I would wait and get the newer process tech which a single gpu would nearly be the same performance of a dual gpu without the driver hassle. Also I am still not convinced by multi gpu's, though they do seem to be getting much better with all this frame pacing stuff.

I will likely get a 390 which I am expecting to be close to double the performance of the card I have now. Then upgrade again to a 16nm card after that in a year or so.

Nice to have new tech. We have been stuck with 28nm for way to long :(

Depends on the price. £300 or less brings you into 970 territory, while the Titan has far more memory (6GB vs 3.5) and is a faster GPU. It may not have some of the features of the 970, buts it's the card I would much rather have.

You can't use a 970 for 1440p, it's just asking for trouble.
