So I get that women want to be equal to men. Fine. So why do women get their own day? Isn't that a complete contradiction of equality?

I guess women are more "equal" than men.

I also don't understand why LGBT people get more representation. What about the rest of society - what special representation do they get?

what do you mean by representation?

Feel free to set up a straight event /carnival/celebration but you wont find many people who can be bothered putting up the money/willing to attend which is why there aren't any.

but equally when was the last time you found members of the government blaming you for floods/gods wrath or saying you shouldn't be allowed to get married, or adopt children?

Let women have their day. We've subjugated them for long enough, they've earned a little respect. Remember, even in the UK they still are not equal to men in many areas, so they have a good point and a right to kick up a fuss.

We have March 14th.

Google "March 14th holiday" in case you're severely missing out.

Edit: Beaten!

They want equality unless it suits them otherwise. Like requiring a potential partner to be some incredible prince even if they themselves look like shrek. :p

You realise that women aren't treated equally globally, right? In the UK it's relatively mild, although inequality still exists... but globally it's on another level.

And the idea of days for minorities or those who are oppressed, and there not being ones for white, male, middle class people is because as a white, male, middle class person there's no meaningful oppression for me, and my brethren, to campaign against. There's black history month because black people and history are underrepresented... white people don't suffer the same fate, so don't need their plight highlighted.

There's little oppression but equally there's practically no support services for the average white male.

Which is part of the reason that for young white males suicide is the biggest cause of death.

People do campaign on that, though, and no one shoots it down. The fact suicide is the biggest killer of young men is a stat which cuts through and no one ever says, 'but what about the women?!?!'.

no one shoots it down but no one funds or backs it either. it doesn't get publicity, it doesn't win any swing voters so no one cares and nothing changes or gets done.
