GTX 980 Far Cry 4 Performance

I have found that the game-play is not silky smooth as I was expecting it to be after so many patches. Its completely playable but the frame drops(?). It's disheartening considering I have the 'best single GPU' out there. I use Nvidia optimal settings at 1080p.
1920x1080, ULTRA details , Soft Shadows, Txaa2x. I have frame drops to even 44 fps when there many tress near me and there is sundown. I have found that soft shadows are big fps hitter. When i change from Soft Shadows to ULTRA i have gain 8 fps.
Or if i change Txaa 2x to SMAA. Why i cant use both together ON -> TXAA 2x + Soft Shadows?

Can users let me know of their experience with this game after the recent patches?

I have tested it with a 980 and a 2600k, and suffered no noticeable drops at all 1440p. However I was also using Gsync.

There is a handy guide here explaining which setting does what, and what visual impact it has against the performance, so you can fine tune things. Some settings have a relatively heavy impact on performance for very situational visual enhancements.

MFAA is also now supported which I understand can give good results for the performance.

Disable just about everything gameworks related (or use the standard alternative) and see how you get on.

It hated anything other then 2xmsaa for me, any more and performance went down the toilet, txaa made this a multitude worse.

No mention of what CPU you ae running?

I played through Far Cry 4 at 1920x1200 max settings 2xTXAA using a 970, so your 980 should be up to the task.

I am using 4790 stock. When i am playing on 1920x1080, ULTRA , SOFT SHADOWS, TXAA 2x i have dips to 45 fps when i am on forest near many trees.
What was your settings shadows playing on Gtx 970 and what minimum fps?
