Hey

Due to an Impacted Wisdom Tooth I was having 4-6 Infections in that tooth per year for the past 3 years.

So the decision was made to have it removed on Thursday last week as my local Hospital.

The experience was to say the least not that great, Due to a current infection the numbing injectors didn't take as well as they should so I still felt some pain.
The sounds of the tooth crunching and cracking was delightful...

They cut my gum up and also somehow cut my cheek to bits, and thus stitched them up, Which had lead to me not being able to bite down at all due to my upper wisdom tooth applying pressure on the wound. So I have to keep my teeth apart.

Due to no longer being able to bite down on any teeth I cant eat solid food, So since Thursday I have eaten chicken soup and added milk cherry Biopots via a straw. (cant open jaw too much due to pain so no spoon entry!)

Now I'm sure you think I am moaning about this and the pain.. blah blah blah.

Well I am and I am not.

I have been struggling to loose weight, (6ft 15Stone). Am not fat at all, just slightly more bulky than I would like.
Since Thursday and starting my liquid diet I have lost some weight. This morning after my Cherry Biopot I was 14Stone 7Pounds. Which is not a small amount of weight to loose in such a short time.

I have cut out all solid food Which in turn means no junk food (which i ate a lot of), I have cut out all Sugar from my intake, such as Coke and sweats... I drank at least 1-2L of coke per day.

The reason for the above is because Dry socket is caused by sugar and food entering the empty tooth hole and getting infected, So I'm doing my best to avoid that.

I plan to keep this stuff out of my diet for 14 days. And after have some sort of will power stay with me to avoid this crappy food I don't need entering my system! As thats my problem, the lack of will power!

Sorry for the long random post, wanted to write something down and help justify the pain my face is causeing me :p

Well it should heal before too long, are you using boiled salty water to keep out infection?

Good luck with your diet, but the tooth issue should be ok within a couple of weeks.

Seriously hope you don't get dry socket, i wouldn't wish it on my enemy, its the most painful thing i have ever felt !

This - regularly swirling with warm salty water will go a lot longer way to preventing dry socket than avoiding sweet stuff I believe (not that that is a bad thing either).

Yea 4 times a day I use Warm-Hot Salt wash on it.
Also have a set of Antibiotics I have to take along side pain killers so help battle any sort of infection onset.

I have been told its Agony and I am hoping to avoid it lol

Did you general or local anesthetic? I've got to have mine out in a few weeks and gone for local. However, everyone I've spoken to either had general or wished they did.

I'm browning myself if I'm honest.

Glad to hear your already using salt water on it, its the most important part of aftercare. You do not want an infection!

Had 3 of my wisdom teeth pulled as a young man. At my last visit to the dentist, he tried to pull my remaining 4th wisdom tooth but couldn't get a grip on it. Actually accused me afterwards of not opening my jaw wide enough lol. I told him that my jaw had been at max openage, felt like planting him to be honest. Anyway, he left me with the pleasing knowledge that at some point it will need to come out as it will get infected. Yeah thanks for that mr.dentist man, I hope you get a letterbox delivery.

Whenever I have had a tooth out I've been to a local place that specialises in it and its the only way to do it imho. There they sedate you, its a mixture of pain releaf and sedation and the whole experience is a blur that you will hardly remember.
I wouldn't want to be fully awake! I hate dentists!

Wow, i've been going through hell all weekend with wisdom tooth, felt like i've said something nasty about mike tysons mum to his face, but sounds like nothing on what you've got.

Grats on losing the weight, sugary drinks are the worst, i've cut them out completely and that alone has seen me lose near 2 stone since january.

I didn't have a bad experience at all with having both my upper wisdoms out,I had them done at different times.

1st tooth,Taken out in Hospital and they put me to sleep as they said it was too deep for me to be awake..and seriously after it was taken out even the next day only the skin in that area was slightly tender,I was quite surprised i thought it was going to be hell.

2nd tooth, was removed at hospital dentist and they out me to sleep again for the same reason...too deep..this one was at an angle so they had to cut a chunk out my gum to pull the thing,That one was quite sore due to the deep cuts and made my Jaw saw for a few weeks after but they did a really good job.

Sooo nice when they are gone though and everything is healed up,No more dul ache pain!

Local. But due to infection I still felt pain.

To be fair it wasn't that bad, was funny to listen to doctor and nurses bitch about their fellow works who keep moving the equipment. They also Walked me through exactly what they were doing.

What drinks were you drinking and how often?

Had mine out a couple of years ago and opted for gas sedation + local. Was fully aware of what they were doing but had no pain and the gas made me not care anyway. Once they were out i sat in the lobby for 10 minutes while the gas wore off then walked out feeling completely normal. The whole thing was much easier than i expected.
