nVidia announce the Titan X at GDC 2015

Eh, what have i missed, everyones been orgasming over 40%+ faster than the 980, wheres the piddly 29% come from ?

I don't understand that either...

I think some people are reading the Overclocked Titan X numbers on the chart and comparing them to the stock 980... they don't even see the stock Titan X numbers further down :D

The stock 980 with 71% rel perf?

Thats still 40%. Stock 980 to stock titan x :p

These will really shine in SLI at high resolutions, better solution and game scaling than 3 980s IMO

30%!!??? Pah, may as well keep my 295x2!!!! :p

When the 295x2 was at £499.99 after the 970 vramgate it was an utter bargain, thanks ocuk!

AMDs Real Reaction ?

As current 8GB cards make little to no difference even at 4k, anyone know why NV bothered with 12GB on one card? Just for Kudos and price justification.

Monster single GPU - can't wait to see some real game benchmarks.

Monster single GPU - can't wait to see some real game benchmarks.

Any combo of the below:

One up the original Titan.
Justify Titan name and pricing based on top 'spec'nes'
6 GB a little low for future 4k - arguments sake say 8GB 'sensible/ideal'
384bit bus = 6 or 12 GB unless they use asynchronous ram config
One up a competitor potential 4k/top spec 8GB card

They all tie together.

5k is out already and that will need more than 6gb of vram so these cards in x3 sli would do the job nicely for that resolution i reckon. As you so though 6-8gb is enough for 4k at the moment.

29% faster that a GTX 980, thats pretty much exactly what i said, some people were citing 50%...... :p

Good though, good performance :)

I'm quite surprised it is only 30% faster, I would have hoped that NVidia would've pushed the boat out and really gone for it.

Of course that is assuming that they are accurate.

Did you all fail maths at primary school or something? Really?

The 980 having 71% of the performance of the Titan X DOES NOT make the Titan X 29% faster than the 980...

To get the "faster than" value... you need to start with the 980 at 100%

100/71 = 1.41

The Titan X at stock speeds, according to these benchmarks, is 41% faster than a 980 at stock speed.

It IS over 40% quicker than the 980... if these benchmark scores are accurate.

Go back to school people... kthx ;)

Someone who's head appears to be functioning... woop!

I said 30% faster and I would be sold. Looks to me like it is at least that but with my abysmal math, I won't be trying to work it out :D

I'm happy with that performance bump... it's about what I was expecting and hoping for... my 2x 970s (then 980s) where only a stop-gap for me to game while waiting for the "real" high-end chip to be released (Titan X).

When there were talks of them being $1350 or so... I was thinking about just keeping the 980s.

But with them hitting the same kinda price point as the 690/Titan 1... then i'm sold... even if I think it's absolutely absurd money for a card... they are double what the flagship cards cost only a couple of years ago.

Silly ATi (AMD)... letting Nvidia sell their mid-range chips as high end... grrrr

Is the 980 with a 15 to 20% overclock

Is the Titan X at stock.

According to those charts the Stock Titan X is 24 to 29% faster than the GTX 980, nothing wrong with that but they both overclock and 30% scaling from 50% more Shaders is exactly what you'd expect.

Its exactly what we saw with GK104 vs GK110 and its exactly what i have been saying, there is more to GPU's than just Shaders that make up its performance.

No, it is 39% faster than the 980 at stock and 26% faster than the factory overclocked 980 G1.

That is very disappointing performance for a £1k+ gpu. Pointless buying at that price with 16m, card likely 1 year away. Awesome card if you got money to burn though :D
