US: Ascension

The point was, that all the way through they did everything possible to tell you the twist that was coming at the end. Really, if you were still in the dark by the end of the 1st episode, you weren't paying attention.

I'm not going to re-watch the thing just so I can tell you precisely when I'd figured the whole thing out, but it was signalled very early on.

Ie: The first time the director talks to his right-hand man, the first time you see the little girl, the first time you actually see the ship (hello, mavity!)... the list goes on.

Seriously, who didn't see it coming a mile off? I'm by no means clever, but like I said, they did everything to tell you what was coming.

To be honest I thought "ah, probably a constant 1g acceleration" but then I thought about how even in a sci-fi show that would make sense, also assumed that they'd flip it around for a 1g deceleration.

I was kinda disappointed after we found out what it really was, it was still enjoyable aside from the reason for the whole experiement/kid.

I'm glad the annoying blonde one got what she deserved ;)

The ending was weird. Just too unbelievable.

Agree it was an entertaining mini-series tho. Can never have too much sci-fi :)

Bad idea, well executed.

I'd guessed the "plot twist" from about 10 mins into the first episode. It was really, really blatant. Probably everyone saw it coming miles before the end. Unless you were asleep.

Also: plot holes. A whole container ship full of them.

Indeed just started watching it but by about 18 minutes into it pretty much got my head around what was really happening.

EDIT: Actually quite liked it overall - fair bit of deeper themes, decent enough set design. Felt they revealed too much too early though - could have dragged it out another 40 minutes rather than the end of the first episode atleast - even though 90% of people will have worked it out by 20 minutes in. Seemed like there was a 3rd story line running through it that mostly got cut (I guess for time/budget reasons) - you can see hints of it in places or scenes that don't quite make sense without an additional story line which probably built up the ending more.

The mavity bit is explainable if we assume the rest of the premise to be true then they'd likely have the technology for it or believe they had the tech for it in their case, the bit where the director is talking to his father and then the researcher pretty much gave it away and then the little girl pretty much confirms it, still think they could have held the actual reveal off a bit longer though as while you've pretty much guessed it your not 100% sure.

I disagree, but then I do tend to switch my brain off when I watch TV otherwise I'd be analysing everything constantly and spoiling the entire thing.

Anyway, watched the final part of this last night and was wholly disappointed, which was a shame as I'd enjoyed the rest of it. Really crap ending, felt awfully rushed towards the end as if they had a bunch of loose ends they needed to tie up. Maybe if they'd spent less time faffing around with showing the internal politics in the ship they wouldn't have to cram everything else into the final five minutes of the show.

Something worth remembering though is that this was originally filmed as a 6-part series. In its original format, the big reveal was at the end of the second episode

I enjoyed it, something a little bit different. Though I'm not a fan of making Christa a main part of the plot.

Tricia Helfer walking out of the fake sea though

After watching 10 minutes of the first episode I didn't realise a girl would have super powers and was the whole point of the experiment.

Guess I'm a bit thick :/

Was a good show, ending was a bit silly but I enjoyed it.

Season 2 is canned, syfy decided not to proceed.

No idea what these people were doing they should have just made a scifi series with Tricia Helfer as a sex robot, would have best all viewing figures and got season 2 by episode 3.
