nVidia announce the Titan X at GDC 2015

Oof! If those performance figures are true then it's exactly as expected. Wouldn't call it disappointing nor would I think AMD will be any more concerned than they already are. Great performance at a premium price point so Nvidia will have bragging rights with this halo level card. If and when they release a cut-down version at a more palatable price point will be interesting, especially when looking at how it compares to whatever AMD have in store with the 390X.

With my first child on the way I find I'm less and less interested in the practicalities of high-end cards and now simply enjoy looking at multi-coloured charts extolling the virtues of THE NEXT BIG THING, it's just a shame that the time frame between these seems tom have extended. At 1080p my 970 (RMA replacement for my 780...nice :) ) will do me just fine for now, with the possibility of SLI extending it's lifespan.

"Now Greg, please lie on the couch. Tell me, do you define happiness purely by your graphics card purchases...." ;) :p

I have been married for 21 years and if her indoors tells me I can have it, I am very happy with my graphics card purchases :D

Seriously though, I want it and don't know why. The 290X is great (even with my issues) but I like shiny, new, and preciou,s and new, and I got's to have it.

You are not the only one who loses all resistance to new shiny fast tech  I'm going to try and wait it out until a single card is faster than a 295x2 at stock though. Have a feeling a non compute/DP GM200 GPU that can boost to 1300Mhz+ will break me

Mazel Tov!!! Hope it's not too painful :D

Thank you! He/she is due in July so I have a few months of heavy gaming to enjoy before my world gets turned upside down!

Yes the 970 is a very good card at 1080p from experience.

Initial impressions are good, though it is a tad slower out of the box than the EVGA GTX 780 SC I had bought to SLI with what I thought would be my replacement 780. The card I have is the Asus Strix and it's so quiet by comparison! Having received the 970 as a replacement I've lost out on SLI but my wife having a 780 to replace her ageing 660 is ample compensation.

As for the 12Gb it makes sense when considering the premium nature of the card, although in all likelihood much like the original Titan GPU grunt will become an issue long before available RAM does.

Compared to the original Titan this new beast is 60% faster. On the same processor node that's a hefty improvement but I yearn for the days when speed was doubled in that sort of time frame (4870-6970 was double or more in 2.5 years).

Very nice indeed. Just a shade under Crossfire 290 / SLi 970 performance on a single card. Precisely what a lot of people have been looking for.

Not bad, 33% faster than the 980 and around 91% of the performance of the Titan Z. For those who can afford them, these will be very nice indeed in SLI (should be able to have a fair shot at maxing out the latest demanding titles at 4K with 2 of these, as long as the rest of your system is up to the task of course).

Still, think I'll stick to my dual 780s for now, I'll probably upgrade when the next generation comes around (Pascal).

Nice to see where my score is ;)

So would I be right in thinking that the titan x, could be just under twice the performance of a
780, going by that benchmark?
