Lets try to keep to serious answers please ladies and gents!

Hypothetical situation that I dearly hope never happens. But realistically it "could".

Putin makes a move that we can no longer ignore - perhaps grabs all of the Ukraine, maybe does an over night grab of Georgia - and we (the British) along with the US, France and Germany have no choice other than to respond.

Nuclear weapons are of course aimed at each other but nothing launched (yet).

Two questions: What are peoples thoughts on how this plays out? What is your personal reaction?

I really don't think we should be putting our country at risk for the sake of former soviet states, I think we screwed up at the end of the cold war when we could have formed better relations with Russia and instead put a load of funding into former Soviet states while not assisting Russia with aid and expanding NATO borders right up to their border.

I'd roll back 30 years listen to **** loads of eighties electro, say "I told you so" and hope that David Bowie and Phil Collins can save us all like they did in 1987, gawd bless 'em.

I keep wondering if we will have similar problems to World War 1, where all establish tactics and strategies were developed in a different era. All our combat capability have been upgraded with the march of modern technology but we have not had full 1st world country vs 1st world country war since 1945.

In WW1 it was refereed to as a "meat grinder" due to the tactics employed of trying to break enemy lines with charges of people. But they were charging automatic guns rather than lines of spears and bayonets.

Are we now in a situation where our tactics and strategies for this kind of conflict have not been updated since the end of WW2 and no one has real life experience with our current modern tech in this style of war.

Empty my bank accounts and disappear to Argentina, as they won't be getting in a war with any one any time soon.

Go for a pint and hope it all blows over.

One **** myself. Two start working out harder in order to prepare for the inevitable conscription.

Was wondering who'd be the first to mention conscription - a very real reality for many posters here in that eventuality and probably not something a lot of people have given a thought to.

I think my reaction would be a mix of bemusement we'd still not learn from the past, slight frustration at the human race (especially those at the "top") in general and some sadness about the inevitable millions of innocent people who'll die on both sides who just wanted to go about their every day lives.

While the first part of your post poses an interesting question - our armed forces strategies/tactics are light years more advanced than at the end of WW2 - we've also had a lot of experience from the Falklands, middle east/eastern europe, etc. to draw on while not directly comparable to a first world on first world war in the modern era have lead to many evolutions since WW2 - I'd say we are one of the few countries truely equipped in regards to mindset and tech albeit not having the numbers for that kind of war.

See that's the thing that worries me. At the end of the day it won't be MPs or their family in the fight yet they seem to be the ones baying for it. I'll get conscripted and let's not kid myself probably killed, even if by some miracle I survive I won't have a buisness to come back to. I'll have no choice in the matter. Fight for the right reasons not just because some pillock wanted to play big boy.

I imagine a lot of a war would take place online. Seeing as how everything is hooked up to the net you could cripple a country remotely(putting it really basically I know).
