"What if" we all woke up tomorrow at war with Russia

The only winners in a war of that scale today would be whoever doesn't take part.

Depends, if nukes start getting dropped the whole planet will feel the consequences.

I couldn't imagine a war against Russia being boots on the ground stuff. It would mostly be warheads.

We probably wouldn't go to war in that case. No one (other than NK) wants to launch a nuke as the majority of targets would be mutually assured destruction. Would USA retaliate if the UK was nuked?

Go for a pint and hope it all blows over.

Came in to post exaclty the same thing.

Winners!:D

First off I doubt it would ever happen.

But if it did then (after posting on OcUK GD as that appears to be the "done" thing in a crisis) I'd make preparations for my family (build safe areas in house, stockpile food, etc) and then offer my services to the police or armed forces. I'm mid 40's so I doubt I'd get put on the front line (at first). I'm also a big coward and certainly not an agressive person. But I'm also quite old sk00l and believe in defending the country. If I can help in any way possible then I'd be there like a shot, whether that's front line or simply helping out the war effort at home. I'd want to do my bit.

Any modern war on that scale would be largely financial, political and fought behind closed doors with the exception of a bit of brinksmanship with the nuclear threats. It's probably going on already for all we know.

I'm ready just as long as my sleeper cell is not activated next week , I have a dentists appointment.

1) Find Patrick Swayze
2) Pee in the truck's radiator
3) Survive in the Malvern Hills on cider and squirrel
4) Cross the border to Canada

Totally foolproof.

Russia may be agressive, but they are not the threat that they used to be. It would take a while for our allies to mobilise properly, but it wouldn't be comparable to the past. We wouldn't need conscription, there wouldn't be a threat to British soil, the only effect for civilians over here would be the economic one.

Unless of course that China joins in, but they might just use it as an excuse to invade northwards themselves.

It ain't going to happen the way you think it would. There may be some proxy war (as happens all the time) but the inevitable consequence will be that who ever is starting to lose a converntional war will just send the nukes out to finish it off.

We are still in a MAD scenario, no war of the type your suggesting is possible whilst we have relatively sane leaders.

Russia are just testing the water to see if we will actually protect some of these former states. As soon as NATO troops went it Russia would just pull back imo.
