Hi guys,

Has anyone had any experience of their pcie slot dying? Its not recognising my gfx card when its plugged in but the gfx card fans are spinning up. Tried the gfx card in a different pc and thats fine. Its an asrock z77e-itx mobo updated to the most recent bios. Everything else seems to be working fine so it seems really odd that just the pcie slot would die.
Any thoughts?

could be mb bios bug?

you sure your on latest bios? tried telling asrock and see what they say? also try setting peg or pcie mode to gen2 with integrated graphics/save/exit then install gpu

Yeah, definitely on the latest bios (1.90). I've set the pcie mode to auto, gen1, gen2 and gen3 but none of the settings made a difference.
Its also impossible to install drivers again for my hd7950 because if the card isn't recognised the ati install manager won't allow any of the driver components to be selected.

I had the same problem last week, when I installed my new sound blaster z. The card would light up, but windows and the driver software would not detect the card. In the end I had to install it in a graphics PCI express slot, which is not great.

My only other none graphics PCIe slot is partially covered buy my CPU cooler. I’m thinking of bending a few cooler fins to fit the card, as I only need a few millimetres to fit the card. Not great but my graphics card is only running at x8, instead of x16. Again not great when you have a 7990 :(

The bios is on pci express for the graphics output. I've tried changing it to onboard and back again a few times but its made no difference. I've also changed between to 2 bios options on my hd7950 using the bios switch, but again its not worked. I've tried a fully functioning gfx card in my pc and that didn't work so i'm sure its not a gfx card issue. Its got to be either the mobo or the psu.

if you've tried a different card and that doesn't work either then it does seem a mb issue

you also disabled igpu then plugged in gpu? and tested with other display leads if monitor supports them,dvi/hdmi ect

I haven't disabled the igpu because, if i disable it how will i enable it again if i'm getting no video output?
This has been a intermittent problem in the past and sometimes i have to use the igpu for a few days, then randomly the gpu reappears and works again for a short time. In that instance the igpu and gpu work simultaneously so i don't think disabling the igpu will do anything... perhaps i'm wrong though.
I'm running through hdmi and have tried various hdmi leads of which none have changed anything. Surely it can't be a lead issue though because even with the video output unplugged the gpu should appear in device manager no?

I too have this very problem with my motherboard and I am running out of things to try :(

Well I turned on my pc today and somehow it's working fine. Gfx card is being recognised. I have no idea what's going on. It hadn't worked for two days and all I did last night was put the sides back on my pc and then turn it off, at the wall plug and at the psu switch. It's so odd. Perhaps it's a psu problem after all.
