The build quality is not 598....but "the Shins" sound equally pleasing on both

For 24 quid.....Makes me think why I paid extra for the 598

I can see....but the cost?.....no way....the 429 is nibbling 598

Using FiiO E9

Bargaintastic. But aren't the HD429s £50? In addition, I would be extremely surprised if they have the same soundstage and clarity; the reviews out there (e.g. on HeadFi) seem to be indicative of that, as well the HD429s lacking in bass, which can come across as uncontrolled at times. They dont sound at all like the characteristics of the HD598s.

Rainforest Spain ...using prime...they charged me delivery but ended refunding me 20.99 euros on two pairs...

They are not the same but the 598 were 129 quid more and the 429 hold there own ?..I was amazed for the money.

Its certainly possible, I still find myself picking up my modded Koss PortaPros over other cans/IEMs at times and they cost me £20 new seven years ago.

don't think it is 598 has a good rep as a gaming headphone the 650 not so much.

I would agree if £200 is your limit then you have a lot to pick from and their is definitely some reasons to consider spending £50 less and £50 more

Been using some qpad 1339 recently they smoke the kingstons on every point as so they should at 3 or 4 times the price.

well you could probably argue that the % increase is always negligible to the price increase in just about anything.

The 650's overall are better headphones than the 598 are they £100-£150 better? Depends but if you used them every day you would get the added value from them.

Recalling the HD555 at £40-50 and HD595 at £60-70 (both excellent value) a few years ago, I've always regarded the HD558 and HD598 as overpriced, although I've only ever demoed them in a shop.

The HD600 (which I own) is frankly in a different league but its more neutral soundstage isn't the most suitable for pairing with some soundcards as a gaming headphone.

I found it suited Xonars with Dolby Headphone very well for gaming. For X-Fi's CMSS-3D Headphone or unprocessed stereo, headphones with angled drivers make them more suitable for gaming than headphones with 'flat' drivers like the HD600. I find it helps with giving a frontal sound presentation, linking the audio with the screen. Dolby Headphone kind of lends this kind of presentation to headphones with flat drivers but I find it messes with the soundstage in headphones with angled drivers.

I've never owned a Soundblaster Z so I'm uncertain on what headphones might be best paired with it.

Are the HD429's drivers angled like the HD598?
