how much for decent headphones?

because you'll need a sound card with a strong headphone amp or an external headphone amp to drive the 250 ohm version.

The DT770's are rightfully extremely popular as they are what many people buy as their first real quality pair of headphones.
I don't have them myself, I have the DT990 pros which are open backed (the DT770 are closed back) but don't come in an 80 ohm version.

We recently sold a box of CALS to a music department in a school for their keyboards They were so impressed they ordered more.

Very good value for money if all you want is a headphone.

Out of curousity...although I have always recommended the Hyper XCloud over the Creative Aurvana Live for people that can stretch the budget...in your opinion, between the two how would you rate them comparing to one another?

I got the Beyerdynamic 770 80ohm but going to have to return them I'm afraid

they sound good but they don't let any noise in at all compared to my previous ones so feel kinda cut off from the guitar when using them

so...any recommendations for some open back headphones with a 3m lead?
maybe semi open as I think thats what my previosu ones were

For gaming, the Clouds, for music, the CAL! really that simple :p

If you liked the DT770 but want open back, you could get a pair of DT990.

This is spot on really, though the two sound signatures are by no means identical and there is a bit of a price hike over the 770s.

they only come in 250ohm versions too, don't tink what I'm using them for has enough power to drive those - I think anyway!

tbh they might be wasted on me, I can hear the difference but wasn't really sure they were worth the £114 I paid, although the closed back thing was part of the problem

actually, they felt quite tight (pressing on my ears) too

Honestly this probably isn't the best place to ask, most of the people on OcUK are in two categories, 1) Gaming headset people or 2) High end HiFi headphones.

If I were you I would go on HeadFi and tell them exactly what you're after and what for, with a budget and they'll have a much wider knowledge of all the good headphones in your budget. However I would say those Samsons that were recommended earlier in the thread are definitely worth a go, especially with Amazons return policy.

Good luck!

Sony MDR-V55 - good headphones, nice bass, well made, flat cable so doesn't tangle but bit chunky and I sometimes find them tight after few hours use.

915 reviews on amazon with overall 4.5 rating and under 40 quid.

I think a lot of the input here is far off what OP is wanting.

e.g.

I post a thread saying spec me a decent smart phone for £100 and everyone comes in and says well you need to spend £600 on a Galaxy Note 4.

Well no that isn't true he can get a moto G for £100 and it's a terrific phone for that budget.

At his budget there is quite a lot to choose from and personally I can recommend panasonic htf600's but there are plenty of £40 headphones which are very very good for the money.

in fact you would be surprised how good they are but £40 is probably the lowest amount you can spend and get decent headphones. £30 and below and it will be scraping the barrel unless you get a special one off deal or second hand.

PortaPros are truly baddass for the money and are within budget :)

Yeah forgot about them they are only £30 as well.

Suppose they are probably bottom of the barrel any lower than that and you really will be struggling to find anything decent.

How much are those monoprice headphones I think they might be a contender too.

edit: yeah monoprices are only £30 as well

PortaPro > Monoprice > HTF-600.... From owndership/experience of all three :D They're top of the barrel up to about £80 in my opinion.

Some have rated the below cans above the q701, no need to spend hundreds to get decent quality.

I took a chance on these and they are great for my use. They don't look as well made as the Beyerdynamics I had first but they sound fine and they don't clamp on to my head with as much pressure. The lead is a bit short but it comes with an extension lead (which I didn't want, but it comes in the box so hey ho!)
