Jeans - Branded vs cheap

I've never gone wrong with Tesco's F&F jeans - even the £10 ones.

I do wear jeans out on the crotch (I cycle a lot in jeans) but the cheap ones don't wear out any quicker than the few expensive pairs I've bought (which I regret as they didn't fit any better).

to those saying branded jeans last longer, could this be because you only wear the branded jeans in situations where they aren't likely to get ruined quickly? perhaps fancy outings etc, where as the cheap jeans you'll wear as every day out and about jeans?

i've rarely found me wanting to wear jeans more then 1 year in a row, maybe 2 years at max and i'm wanting a change. i'm not into brands at all, the jeans i wear the most are from HnM and were cheap, but because i would get bored of the exact same pair for years on end, plus i'm changing size i see branded jeans as a waste of money.

branded jeans you barely even see the label so not like anyone would even know if they're armani or asda.

There are massive differences in jeans, HUGE I am told by someone who has a fetish for them and collects them from all over the world. Some pairs circa 800 quid, law of diminishing returns at that level, but for me it's about the cut and the material and I have found that 100 quid jeans feel and fit better and hold shape much better than cheap jeans. Just me, sure there are good cheap jeans but for me you have to spend a bit to get a good fit/quality balance. M&S jeans for me are crap, I had loads of pairs and all of them were crap. I didn't wear jeans for years but I spent on several quality pairs (all circa 100 notes) mid last year and they were MUCH better.

Problem is (more so than many types of clothing) there is even less correlation with jeans between brand name, price and fitting/quality (there are some exceptions like Balmain) but even a lot of "designer" jeans are a generic design with an expensive label slapped on some cheap material and then you get inexpensive brands that can be good quality, well fitting just a solid pair of jeans i.e. lee cooper and crosshatch.

I wear jeans daily and also wear them out around the crotch. Within the last 5 years the only brands I have worn are Ed Baxter and Raphael Valencino. Both brands are around £30 and 1 pair lasts me around 2 years, worn at work, home and out. And if you saw the post 2 weeks ago about often you wash jeans, mine go in at least once a week.

My PRPS ones are so much nicer than the cheap ones, they cost £260 and still look brand new 2 years later, no way would I wear £12.50 jeans from asda as they just don't fit properly

it's all about primark for me. when i first used them a few years ago they were £4 a pop. i was a bit gutted when i had to pay £7 for some a few months back. :D

How long do they last (in terms of wear)?

I bought a few pairs of jeans from Next recently and they don't last very long. The general quality of Next is terrible and their slim fit has become a bit slimer!

When will denim phase out?

Any other brand (quality) retailer you guys recommend?

I've found the denim very thin on some jeans, I had some next ones that wore very quick.

I don't care about brand, I try them on as fit and look are most important closely followed by quality.
501s for example don't look good, the cut is not right for me.

Best advice is to try them on, go to a retail park and try a bunch of different ones.

I find the M&S jeans last years.

Funny you ask this, I always subscribed to the idea that branded jeans would be better but that is not entirely true.

When I was searching for skinny jeans (needed them for a music video shoot) so I had to get a decent pair that fit really well. So I went hunting... I tried on around 6-8 different pairs and branded ones included levis etc.

The winner in terms of cut / feel / look? topman. Their jeans were the best out of the bunch. Levis were nice jeans but just didn't fit as well / feel as good.

You've got to try them on to tell. I'd have no problem spending 90 quid on a pair of jeans if they were good. but probably maximum would be 90ish no higher.

Asos. Rather decent quality, good fit and are cheap enough to not care about when you do wear a suspiciously placed hole in them. :)

You can also enter your dimensions into their site - only on their own brand jeans - to compare your current jeans measurements with theirs. Handy.

Over the last few weeks I've tried on at least 25 different types of jeans from real cheapies to very expensive ones and nothing fits me as well or is as comfortable as 501s.

If you have a factory outlet with a Levi's store near you they're doing a deal at the moment where you can get two pairs for £99. It's worth a look.

I bought some from primark once for something stupid like £4. As far as I can tell, they must be made for some other species as the proportions of the jeans were way off. There is like... no crotch area, they are unusable.

I wouldn't buy expensive jeans though. £30 would probably be the limit. No real brand preference, I'll just buy ones I like and are comfy.

I mainly wear Diesel and Replay but you're mainly paying the extra for the cut and design but I do find their quality much better.

Crotch blowouts are the most common problem, but I have a rotation of about 10 pairs so no one pair has extended wear. To reduce blowouts don't buy jeans too tight or wear them too low.
