Right, so I caved and bought this. Spent my first evening's play on a random exploration run and have about 500k in the bank and a mildly upgraded sidewinder.

Quite fancy trying a spot of combat but still learning the stick so nothing too risky... are there any worthwhile noob-friendly combat setups that can be achieved for ~500k or should I invest in upgrading my scanners etc and do a bit more exploration?

So, how far along has this game come since release? I have stayed away from it as it seems it is not ready yet.

I do fancy a space game, was considering Starpoint Gemini 2, but not sure if it is good enough for me to put the time in.

I loved Freelancer, any suggestions?

Get yourself an Eagle or Viper and give it a go. A Sidewinder will just get its butt kicked in seconds.

Go for a mix of laser to strip the shields and multi-canons to mash the hull

Really struggling to get back into this game, after a massive bug that wouldn't clear of a wanted bounty I reset the save and no just cannot be bothered

I can see where you are coming from but its not quite the slog it was at release. Some think its been dumbed down but i think its now just more fun.

yeah exploring bores me a well but at least you now get more money for your efforts and you can get named as the discoverer (slightly pointless but a nice little thing)

open play can be hard work if you have a small ship or just want to be left alone to trade and build up to a good ship.

Personally I do my trading in solo and combat in open. its just annoying when you get ambushed by a wing of Pythons when you are just trying to sve and buy that new shiny laser

I thought I was in Solo mode that was the issue. It was not an NPC that killed me...

LOL

Are you aware that the heat scale has been changed?

yeah i read the change log properly this time, makes sense now!

Decided to give up the trading now and go bounty hunting!

Now I've not done any combat, so basically bought a Viper, upgraded a few bits and went on the hunt, was doing well until me thinking going up against a Anaconda would be wise...alone...with the little experience i have

I lasted 7 minutes till I actually supercruised on out of there!

Posted this up in a couple of other places, thought I'd drop it in here too - 2 minute clip from Sagittarius A* :)

Well done! I made it ~6k lys from Sol and I've now turned tail. Got bored, I don't tend to get more than an hour's game play at a time so going to head back and will then go on shorter adventures.

Plus fancy some shooting time in a vulture ;)

Similar play time limits for me, which is part of the reason it took so long - can do about 1k Ly an hour on a good day.

Started the long return leg now, looking forward to getting back to the meat of the game, and selling all of this data should be nice with the increase in prices :)

*sigh*

is there any point in killing me when I have no Cargo?

Or are they just being a ****

I only fire if they run (I assume they have cargo). If you say you have no cargo and let them scan you then they'll leave you alone rather than getting more bounty on their heads (assuming you aren't in an anarchy system). That's how I operate anyway. If they kill you anyway then yes, they are screwing you.

I had some success pirating tonight and got a cargo bay full of rares emptied out (without even killing the guy) but bounty hunting is more profitable it seems. Friend and I took a wing of 5 wanted shops out in our asps which was exciting

Ok, just started to bounty hunting last night. (Defo in Solo for the time being)
My little sidewinder with gimbled beam lasers, b and a power plant and distribution, heat sink and ecm does quite well :)

This game is Imence.

It gets even better when you go bounty hunting in a wing with mates. You can take on some big ships and get some good money that way.
