Hi All,

I don't really follow the news here, I heard there was a gtx 990 on the way. Is this what the TITAN X essentially is? I also hear that new memory is on the way, thus new cards. when is that due?

Yep two GTX 970 cores on a single PCB with 7gb of memory.:D

Being serious for a minute a pair of GTX 980 cores on the same PCB would be doable and very fast.:)

The Titan X is a scaled up GTX 980 with 50% more of everything and 12gb of VRAM.

There is new memory (HBM) on the way but I think it will appear first on AMDs upcoming 390X.

would that trump my current GTX 980?

You see, I have an LG 34" monitor, fine.. looks great, plays great

however, I now have my eyes on 40" 4k monitor from philips, and not sure GTX 980 could push that

I don't want to SLI, summer is coming and my room turns into a furnace, I can't imagine what 2 graphics cards will do

Think they might of been playing with you:P

The most recent is the Titan X, after this release i think the 980TI's are due to come out.

I could be wrong though:P

perhaps im best off investing in some better cooling for my room

although last summer, I had the dell 30" wfp3008, that was hot.. and my lg seems cool

It would if it was real.

It couldn't unless you are okay with playing with most of you settings tuned way down on most games. RTS games might be fine with only a few settings turned down. You will probably hit just as many if not mroe problems with two 970's at 4k. Hell, people are even reluctant about recommending them for 1440p due to the RAM.

What games do you play?

An extraction fan is the cheapest and easiest way to get some real ventilation in your room. I have put one in my windowless home cinema since i game there and it got toasty in the summer.

I would imagine a 980 TI would be in the works maybe. When? I dont know, maybe theyll wait til what AMDs next batch of new cards get released??
The Titan X doesn't have double-precision for compute, so it is essentially 980Ti 12GB wearing the branding of "Titan" for the sake of hiking the price anyway.

Nvidia most probably already have the 980Ti 6GB ready, but you can count on them to not to release it until AMD launch their 390x first, so they can set the stock clock of the 980Ti 6GB to whatever clock require to beat the 390X by a nose in reviewers' benchmarks :p

I am wondering if the 980Ti might have a reduced number of cores to provide a bit of distance between it and the Titan X.

This could also make room for a vendor custom board Titan X "SE" with 6GB.

There is no single card on the market at the moment that's acceptable at 4k resolution, if you want the eye candy turned up.

If you want to power that 4k display properly, you will need at least 2 Titans, possibly more.

A dual-gpu card is still SLI... it just happens to all be happening on the same card.

So 2x 970 chips on a single board (like GTX690 was 2x 670) would be practically the same as having 2x 970 cards separately in your system.

Doubtful there will be any 980ti.

This range of the release is basically the same as the 680/780/titan releases.

So Nvidia will likely try to claim through marketting that it is a whole new series of cards, ala 780.

So 980 would jump to 1080/1080ti or whatever else they choose to call it.

It'll probably be the same chip that's powering the titan, only with a few cores disabled so it's no too close to the power of the titan and half the vram at 6GB.

If where going on their past range of releases then its not unrealistic to assume a 980ti would be released with probably the same cut down chip and vram you specced

It will depend on yields really, i expect some sort of cut down 980ti at some point with a couple of disabled units and a 6GB buffer.

If NVidia want to hurt AMD a GTX970 with 6-7GB of full bandwidth memory, GTX980 with 8GB and keep the prices as they are.
