So I just got a new job which requires some training up in London for a month. The company is flying me at their expense every week and called to ask for my middle name and book the flights.

I just realised that they don't know my full first name and had to ring them and tell them.

I feel like a right numpty but in my defence. I have never ever used my full first name other than my passport and drivers license.

I'm going to assume some sort or fee is involved to change it for them.

Don't worry about it, chances are HR are dealing with this, and the project won't even know.

Even if they did, people using a middle name instead of a first name isn't that rare.

Just to point out, always gone by Toby but birth certificate/passport is Tobias. It's why I never really thought about it because no one has ever called me Tobias. So I'm assuming the flights are booked as "Toby Middlename Lastname".

It was my boss that I rang, he didn't sound too happy but again it never hits me that my legal name is Tobias. Ugh

Guess it depends on who's flying you as to whether it's a mere annoyance or expensive. Iirc some don't allow name changes so it could be quite expensive. Probably cheaper to have your name legally changed :D.

It's easy to worry about these things but honestly, I doubt it'll be an issue. Even if the flight was booked as 'Toby' the airline likely wouldn't question it; I'm pretty sure I've booked as Chris before when all my ID is Christopher.

believe me I'm looking at deed poll now. I have had enough of this first name that is never used and I don't intend on using it "oh but when you're older you might like it"....

It took me nearly 2 years to realise all my pay slips from my previous company said "Tom" instead of "Thomas" :D It was only when i was using one for proof of something somebody questioned it!

I imagine if your passport number etc all matches up there will be no problem with the airport folks regarding Toby Vs Tobias

My name is hiphipapotomus, but you can call me hipotimus, my lyrics are bottomless

I cant see it being an issue tbh

Strangely enough, we called my lad Tobias, when we were in the Hospital after the birth I was given the job of signing the birth certificate thing and I just wrote "Toby" (should have put Tobias) my wife was furious as she never saw it and only found out at a later date.

Become Saibot instead.
MK trivia I found out the other day haha. It should be my nickname actually lol

So the opposite of myself then. Why did you put Toby? Parents are strange when they just have a kid. My middle name is spelt so very very wrong as well. If I ever have a kid it's going to be a simple first name and no messing about lol

Cheers people. It's going to be on my head for the rest of the day though. You guys can just keep calling me Tobes though thanks haha.

^lmao Max t :D

I've had the same issue as the op with my Mom. She goes by her middle name day to day, so when I'm booking flights for her or phoning a company on her behalf to sort stuff it can get a bit confusing as some documents use her middle name as her first name and some 'more offcial' documents or paperwork use her actual first name

My uncles name is Keith but everyone in the family abd friends call him Sam and he signs for everything and has everything in the name Sam.....no part of his actual name has Sam in it. It came from my grandad calling hin "Sam boy" and it stuck
