What's the current best set of speakers you can get your mitts on that are really good when LOUD for music and good when at a normal volume for gaming / youtube etc :)

2.1 I think I don't have the desire for surround or anything and the satellites tend to be too low quality in comparison.

Not bought any since about 2002 with my Creative Inspire 5.1s :D

Thanks :)

Onkyo HT-X22HDX 3D Ready Ultra Compact 2.1 Home Cinema System - is still a mighty all-rounder

or you got the classic

Acoustic Energy AEGO M 2.1 active speaker system

the Aego are built with brick-like quality . You will dent the floor if you drop the satellites lol

I'm not sure on the absolute best or your budget, but the Paradigm CT Millenia 2.1 Speakers are meant to be very good. Although they cost a fair whack and a demo is going to be difficult.

corsair sp2500 :D

the aego m's were great but the disti wanted me to put the price up by £80 so i had to stop selling them.

Its a real shame on the aego's ... you got a real quality feel with them as well. Definitely get your free postage worth out of those babies :D

Thanks all.
Budget wise I don't know really would consider anything really but if it got over £200 I'd hesitate :)

At the moment I'm torn between Acoustic Energy AEGO M 2.1 active speaker system & the SP2500s :)

Haven't tried the SP2500s, but I had the Aego Ms a few years ago and found them a bit thin compared to my AudioEngines. Sound stage was quite cramped and the definition was a bit meh...

I bought some Bose Companion 5's recently, they are an amazing set of speakers I also tried the Companion 3 which are a bit cheaper and still fantastic sound quality.

some on board is not terrible, most is still below what you'll get from even a cheap sound card and absolutely no onboard audio comes anywhere near a top end sound card like the STX or ZxR

I would go for the SP2500 over the Aego M. I had the Aego's for quite a few years, they were ok. I find them a little overpriced for what they are and found that the sub felt very distanced and boomy. Not heard the SP2500 but I've read good things about them.

I wouldn't run either from onboard though, while it has improved, it's still well behind an STX or similar. I would look into an all in one USB set such as the Bose Companion 5, they get a lot of hate but come with a DAC and are self powered, also look the part aesthetically. Soundwise they would probably be fine for your needs.

Invest in the Objective DAC if you go the SP2500 route.
