Hum. Just inspected the Gran Fondo bike a bit closer and did some measuring for new handlebars. Looks like the accident might have claimed the frame after all, there is a crack in the headset.

Shame, new fork as well then? You're not having much luck :(

Route for the group ride tomorrow hasn't been announced (they have had problems as I don't think any of them are very computer literate!) but after visiting the LBS earlier in the week with my 'noise' I know it's not going to be a fast/hilly one as the owner 'Clive' is running it and they joked about it being an 'old mans ride'! ;)

I've commuted all week with no rest day from my bit of hill effort last sunday. My legs are tired and my right calf has been feeling like cramp all afternoon, think I'm going to have an early night and then decide how I'm feeling in the morning before deciding about the mystery ride... Slightly off-put about not knowing the route/status of climbs etc but then it could be a nice surprise! :D

On the Strava routes page where you can select to download a .gpx of a route it shows an 810 displaying turn-by-turn directions and a good map. My 810 does not do this! Any idea how to enable/setup? I've not loaded maps onto mine yet, would I need to first?

What helmets do people rate then? I have to warranty my MET Stradivarius which turned out to be a piece of ****as the rear adjustment is made of cheese and broke.

I was thinking of Kask Mojito as my previous Kask K10 was awesome and the rear adjustment was very robust.

Kask are good, Giro are good, best thing to do would be to go to a shop and try a few one, see what actually fits your head and how you like the adjustment mechanisms.

Yes you need to have some basemaps installed, good guide here: http://ridewithgps.com/help/edge-810.

You need to be aware though that there have been numerous complaints about the 810's turn by turn guidance. Started a long while ago: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?142292-Turn-By-Turn-Routing-Problems-On-Garmin-Edge-810 but you can see current activity and things don't seem to have improved.

I have a Kask Vertigo. Love it! Specialized and Giro do some nice ones too.

Catlike mixuno/whisper are what I wear

Hey, should have done this in Sept but I need to insure my roadie. 2015 Giant Defy 3.

Whos best?

Protect your bubble priced me at £4.50 per month but I don't know what to watch out for.

Cheers,

James.

Ordered a Mojito in the end, it uses the same adjustment mechanism as my K10, has a small profile which i also like about my K10 and has some nice touches such as synthetic leather chin strap and coolmax head pads. Hopefully Chainreaction don't play silly buggers with the warrantee return.

Excellent thanks dude, I'll assume this will work with the talkytoaster maps too?

Anything is better than the birds-eye you get with no directions, I've actually turned it off and used the compass part of it to find my way home before now (while looking out for road signs lol)... :o:rolleyes:

Check your home insurance, think we're insured with AXXA and they cover up to 5 bikes with an agreed max value of the most expensive bike (£900). They cover them at home and away (providing ridden by myself or my missus) and it only costs us +£12.50 on top of our home insurance... Per year! Not had to claim as when I was knocked off it all went through the other guys insurance (as it was his fault). More specialist policies you may accrue 'no claims' like a car policy but then you'll be paying for a premium policy to cover racing etc.

home insurance - just google the reviews of PMB and that will certainly put you off them for sure!

Given how time crunched i am this year compared to last, decided to start doing some commuting as a means of getting some miles in.

It's around 17 miles each way, so not too bad. First half on the road and then the Clyde cycle path for the second half. Some decent climbs on the way back as well. Figured i can start working my interval sessions in on the way home when the clocks change as well.

I've had my Kask Mojito for about a month now and it's great. It's really light and comfy so much so that its easy to forget it's there. It's also got easy adjustments. £100 may seem a lot but it's a really great lid!

I need help spending money.

My current GPS/navigation setup is an iPhone mounted to my stem. When I had an iPhone 5 this was fine, but I've now got a 6 Plus and frankly it looks ridiculous.

I was looking at getting an Garmin 510/810 but I've seen that they only work with Ant+ sensors. Predictably I've backed the wrong technological horse and have Bluetooth speed/cadence/HR sensors.

At this point my options are either buy a Garmin and spend money on new sensors or find a GPS unit that has navigation and works with Bluetooth sensors. The latter would be ideal but, are there actually any? There's the Polar 650 but that looks almost as big as my iPhone! Is there anything Garmin sized out there?

Just saw this a Lezyne GPS that offers bluetooth support.

Did a social 70k today with 1200m and a coffee at the end of it. Legs felt good, so hope they don't feel bad tomorrow for racing now!

Taking two new cyclists out on a slow 40 miler today. Lovely weather so far - hopefully it holds up for tomorrow when I'm going out with a new group that as far as I can tell are all pretty serious cyclists  Bit concerned I'm going to get dropped but it'll be fun either way :)

Had a thought, I'm going to take my bike into work and see if one of the guys can apply a repair to it before throwing the towel in.

Surely a great excuse to buy a new frame. ;) Guy I know just dropped a grand on a set of track wheels but the disc rubs on the chainstay, so he's using that as an excuse to buy a Dolan DF4.
