Recently bought an msi 290x twin frozr from here, slotted it in and started having fun with it, started noticing artifacts (geometric lines and brightly colored textures in shadow of mordor) figured driver conflicts and reformatted the machine but the problem remained.

I tested with furmark and occt but after hours of testing never got any errors at this point I fired of a webnote and was told to try updating the bios on my MB, I did and it seemed to have solved my problem and I could play for hours with none of the previous issues.

However I still have an issue where a section of the UI (minimap or crosshair for example) is miscoloured, distorted or has a line through it, it sometimes manifests itself in chat text also, this has occurred in both the games I currently have installed (WoT and mordor).

Testing the card in 3d benchmarks occt etc reveals no errors and I really don't think the card is at fault but I'm running out of time to return the card and I'm not really sure on what to test now.

anyone have any suggestions or ever had anything similar? I'll try to get a SS to post when it happens again but the last time it happened it never made it to my clipboard so didn't catch it.

my spec

Motherboard: Asus M4A87TD Evo AMD 870 (Socket AM3)
Motherboard Chipset: AMD 870
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1055T "95W Edition" 2.80GHz (Socket AM3)
Memory: Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
PSU: Antec TruePower New Modular 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Graphics: MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming Edition OC 3072MB GDDR5
Graphics Driver: 14.12

Thanks!

Think I should have trusted my gut and returned it.

I'm still wary of rma it because this happened after 6 hours of play with no prior problems, its done 2 hours of occt with no errors! and I don't want it sent back to me as working with a bill for testing when obviously its not :(

Anyone suggest anything else I can do first or should I just return it and hope that it craps out in testing.

Cheers!

Edit> just to be clear vddc was stable, temp was 54, gpu load 48% and clocks at stock.

How long ago did you buy it?

If within 14 days, you can return it even if its unwanted. You should still make it clear that its faulty so they dont flog it on as a b-grade card, but you shouldn't have any issues returning it in that period, even if they cannot find a fault in testing.

EDIT - just seen the date of the first post.

I'm sure CS will sort you out. Best talking to them than us.

You can try to reset your motherboard bios and see if the issue persists. Also maybe try to disable "Link state power management" within "Advanced power settings" in Windows.

Yep still within the 28 day period but obviously beyond the 14 day, have requested an rma for it just asking here in case anyone can suggest anything, really don't want to be without a gpu for the turnaround time :(

also looks like they have stopped selling the card I bought so would have to replace it with something else :(

try 14.4 drivers. some just dont like certain drivers/ configurations.

i had similar with a browser game i played. it turned out to be the driver.

Hmm last thing I would try is a different cable see if that changes anything. Also another member was having similar problems and he fixed it by updating his motherboard bios to the latest.

If the above doesnt work, i would send it back.
