So I just picked up a boxed ZTE ZMAX for $10 (Rather epic I think), it's on T-Mobile, but I can't open the Sim Slot, it is jammed shut (A paperclip or sim ejection tool do nothing.)

Any suggestions?

At that price, I'm guessing it is used? And maybe had the cheap price because of this issue :p

Sounds like it may have been bent inside, I have (nearly) had this before where the SIM ejection tool has slipped and ended up at an angle inside the hole, removing the tray after that for the first 3 or 4 times was a bit tricky, it didn't really seem to 'pop' out, but was okay after that

I will try the plastic sheeting again. I tried that a few times today without any success.

The phone works perfectly it seems apart from that lol.

EDIT: Tried various thicknesses of plastic, and can only seem to get it in 1/2 and cm at most (no it's not an Innuendo!) hmm...

What is the sim tray made of?
Is drilling a hole an option?
If hard plastic or metal could you drill a very small hole with a Dremel and then insert the end of a piece of metal and prize or pull it out? You would have to remove any bits from inside the phone. Metal more risky than plastic because of conductivity. Then fill the hole.

Could you get a replacement sim tray? If yes, then glue something like a zip tie with Araldite. Let it set for a minimum of 24 hours, and pull the sim tray out.

Replacement sim tray... I really hadn't considered that! (will look into it.)

The tray fascia is plastic on the outside and the tray itself is metal. There is a small hole for the tray removal tool to fit in.

If you pull it out you're risking bending the pins is probably caught on.

That said, if it is caught on them they're probably mangled anyway.

Just some follow-up on this. I did get is open eventually and it works fine, not bad for $10 :)

I donated the phone to my father-in-law as an upgrade from his galaxy 2, but he has not actually used it yet after several months. I'm considering asking for it back so I can use it instead, as the bigger screen is a nice to have.

...and he ended up never using it and it just sat on the side in the case I bought for it. So, I asked if I could use it so I can get on AT&T. I unlocked it this morning and will try to get down to the store to get a sim for it later today.

The thing is really big, I'm not sure I like having a phone this big actually. TBH, the case doubles the thickness of it so that probably doesn't help lol.

Apparently root has finally been achieved for this phone, so it looks like things are starting to look up for it :-) (Although I think it's only as fast as my current phone the GS3 - but the 5.7" screen is a big plus).

On a separate note, I managed to get a iPhone 5C for my wife so trying to get that ported over to AT&T as well, which is proving entertaining (she needs to keep her number).

EDIT: Finally managed to get the number ported over to cricket wireless (Cheaper AT&T prepaid service) with the ZMAX. Will now get the wife on it as well. Also.. looking at Windows phones (920/1020's) as they are under $100 although the app's are not as rich as Android.
