any help appreciated on this - system specs in the dog below. Have tried to turn it on and I get nothing. No MB lights not boot. I've tried a different PSU and it's still no good. Changed the kettle plug and it's still no good. If I power off at the wall and then turn the PSU on I can hear the computer making noise as if it's going to boot but then it powers off. At no point do any lights come on. I'm losing the will with this X99 machine it's been nothing but stress!! Any ideas what I should look at next. Times like this I wish it wasn't a custom loop as no doubt all that's gonna have to come out. Grrr

Any ideas ??

Thanks

cmos reset
any beeps or error codes
enough pipe slackage to unslot the gpu's / remove their power cables?
remove the mem , nomem message beeps / codes?

Thanks for the reply - it doesn't even get that far. Even though the power is coming from the PSU the board acts like it's dead. I have tried all of the above and it makes no difference. Faint sounds like the drives are powering up for maybe 1.5 seconds and then it fades away. No lights, no debug no nothing. I have checked all of the connections and everything is connected correctly.

If you've swapped PSUs and there's still no mobo lights I fear it's a dead motherboard.

Nothing changed before this? Power cut or anything?

Actually just thinking when you changed PSUs did you swap the cables as well? I've never heard of it before but I guess it could happen.

Ok pain in the bum I know but pull all the power cables to the mobo/GPUs/hdd and bridge the ATX supply. See if the fans spin.

Ground up rule out psu first. Just on the off chance of two bad PSUs.

If I jump the PSU with just the pump attached it works fine. As soon as I re connect the board I get nothing again. Same slight power up and instant power down with no beeps or lights. Have to turn off and on again at wall to get it to even do that. Thanks for your help so far

have you tried the GPU in another PCIe slot at all? (if possible)

have you re seated both power cables to the mobo (24 pin and 8 pin)

does the CPU fan spin up at all when its turned on?

At this point I would strip all I can from the pc any hardware that can be unplugged unplug it.

Reset psu and see if mobo lights up. If you're getting a brief indication of power it may be a short somewhere and the mobo/psu is protecting itself.

I don't know if it will work as mobo doesn't currently light up but have you plugged a speaker into the mobo jack see if it produces any beeps.

If after unplugging ram/GPU/hdd/usb there's still no indication of power to the mobo I would suggest it's blown somehow :(.

:(. I'm going to have a search but I think it might be worth starting a warranty claim :(.

I've just read a thread (admittedly on hackingtoshs but same style issue) they claim replacing the cmos battery fixed it... Do you have a multimeter to check the batteries charge?

And just to add (and admit I am a moron) the noise I was hearing is the external HDD. Motherboard is completely dead.

And no viisible signs of damage on the board. Even with nothing plugged in there are no MB lights. Might take a trip and pick up a new board and see if that fixes it.

is this still connected to the PC? if so disconnect it.

does the cpu fan spin up at all once turned on or is it only fans connected directly to the PSU?

Have tried a spare fan but nothing. There is no indication the board is even getting power as even when the PC is off usually the MB lights up.

it sounds like the mobo is dead.

looked through the manual and there should be a number of lights on and one for the bios as well.

how old is the mobo?
