Airbus A320 Crashes in Alps

Latest report was that a distress signal was sent at 10.47 French time at around 5000 feet. The nature of the distress signal wasn't given on the news.

Yeah, apparently it went from 38k, then right down to 8k then made a distress call around 5-6k, and apparently there was hardly any information from the call..

Thats not actually true afaik, I thought general recording data generally shows that people become docile and quiet when things like this happen (a natural biological occurance) it's not like the movies with all screaming and chaos.

Most people freeze, don't take it in. There's a big difference between those who act in an emergency and those who become docile. Anyone who's been in a major traffic accident will remember the difference in attitudes shown by different people, some of the most active go-getters suddenly clam up but people you'd never expect to spring into action do.

On the 3 very bad flights I was on it was just like the movies.

RIP to them all :(

I imagine I'd be extremely terrified and hysteric if I knew something was gravely wrong with the plane I was flying on.

Yea, that's what you imagine, but not what actually happens. Your body will release a flood of chemicals and silence and docility is more common.

And I don't disagree with Halfmad above, some people will take control and burst into action in a crises, but not so much sheer terror and hysteria.....evolutionarily that's not a good response to survive a situation :p

Doesn't mean they aren't scared out of their brains. I went all docile and quiet when I went on a rollercoaster, and I was petrified despite knowing I wasn't going to die.

Surely something is going wrong the aviation these days. There's been a huge increase in the number of large plane crashes in the last 10-15 years. I get it, there's a lot more planes up there now, but surely with technological advances... :(

http://www.iata.org/pressroom/pr/Pages/2013-02-28-01.aspx Yeah it's 2012.
But no, it's just more get reported than they used to - you'd be surprised how many still don't get widely reported, although mostly non-fatal one's.

What is it with planes falling out of the sky all of a sudden?

Come on Castiel I'd expect better of you then a comment like that.

First passenger jet down for almost 3 months, when you consider the sheer number of flights aviation is safer than it has ever been.
