290X Vs the Titan X bench tested

It is alright for you, I am rocking a 7950 for now :D I define a bargain with this card.

I just swapped my R9-290s with my older GTX680s.

Those cost me 680 euros each with backplates and custom air brackets. Wouldn't call them a bargain though :p

VRAM is gimped at only 2GB :(

Haha, I have an extra 1GB and I could pop the other 7950 in but ugggg, I just can't get the enthusiasm. Also only rocking 1080P, my desk is a mess with the monitor right in my face. Hurry up with these damned cards so I can get back to normal :D

I suppose even though Greg's 290X is not the norm for 290X's it won't make much difference to the scores if he could have clocked it a bit higher. I suppose it will be good to see the score difference between Titan-X and 290X and see what an extra £660 buys you in performance.

Even more interesting is when the 390X 8GB comes out how much £400 saved gives you the same or more performance. :D

And what is he 390X is 20% slower than a Titan X and prices £550, or its 5% slower and prices at £650?
Why are you so sure if its price?

Greg while you've got the 7950 in the machine, have a look to see if you still get the monitor issue you were getting when you first go the 290. I know you have found some work arounds or resigned to put with a lower refresh rate, but it would be nice to know if the monitor gets the same issues with the older card or if it is a difference between the 7950 and 290 that causes it.

And before anyone chimes in with it is the non standard display controller that causes these things. Yes that may well be but testing how the older card works wont do any harm will it, maybe with the 290 AMD tightened the tolerances, or something.

Can't Bru, as this card doesn't have a DP port (only a mini one). If someone wants to send me an adapter though, I am happy to try it :)

The guy I worked with who bought it off me has been pestering me for it, so I said let me have your 7950s and you can have it... I didn't even think about them not having a DP port, so after plugging in and holding the end of the DP cable to the back of the GPU, it was a ****** moment and just grabbed the VG278H and popped that in front of the other monitor.

I thought I would only be using it for a day, but looks like it might now be till Thursday as no TXs at OcUK :(

The 7950 is ok (HIS Ice-Q Boost) but not played any games on it, as 1080P looks horrendous now :D

Ah I see, I take my "told you so" back then. lol I love a good "derp" moment, keeps me grounded. Sorry to hear you're all cramped up though but hopefully over the next few days you can get your room back to normal and satisfy that itch with plenty benchmarks.

Games do look exceptional at 1440p so I don't blame your new found snobbery :D.

So no gaming until new cards?. Don't let the wife catch you doing idle things.

Mate, I have done nothing but some benching for fun and on the forums. 1100Mhz is the most I can get out of this 7950. If I get that bored tomorrow I might well pop the other in but such a chore with this XSPC H2 case.

I think we are going to have more time (wasting) of random benching and gaming on older cards until we get our cards :(

:( Must be doing your head in a little. At least you're at the forefront of any advancements in the industry with the downtime (sorry, trying to be the optimist). It would be the perfect time to complete a single player campaign on an older game you always wanted to get into.

You could always do some benchmarks with the 7950s as I'm sure two of them are faster than a 290 but then it's just a suggestion to kill some time. Possibly go practice those facial expressions for the arm-wrestling match against 8Pack. :D
