*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S6/Edge Thread ***

@rG-tom, If I had 40% off ee I'd get one of their 20gb packages but choosing between voda and ee i'd just pick whichever gives the best data coverage in areas i go regardless which gave the better discount.

Still disappointed nothing on Amazonuk yet

I reckon they're waiting for the € £ ratio to settle and for all the early-adopter prices to get out.

From the o2 refresh and Amazon.de initial prices a decent though not "what the market will bear" profit can be made sub £530, the Samsung dollar to retailers price will soon leak and I predict sub $450, I'll stick to my normal practice and buy in late May.

I've only gone over 6gb twice in 24 months, so 7gb/10gb will be sufficient....I'm just annoyed that EE are charging for a handset on a £48.50 a month contract and not even giving the free wireless charger! That plus the £10 a months worth of spotify and it makes vodafone cheaper despite being only 20% instead of 40% discount

Obviously we're unlikely to get any decent AOSP ROMs for the S6 due to a closed source for the Exynos processor, but will that stop us having custom ROMs based on the Samsung ROMs with further useless stuff removed?

not sure if it's a misprice but you can get the S6 32GB from mobiles.co.uk for the following:

unlimited calls and texts, 3GB data on O2
£31 a month + £79.99 upfront = £823.99 over 24 months

There is a 5GB tariff which costs £34 a month + £99.99 = £915.99

It's a bit strange as there are tariffs on the same website which cost like £5-10 a month more.

Thanks stoosh, I've had a quick read of that comprehensive review and it was largely positive. Video cam and camera shots look great too. And the screen calibration is first class. The M9 was a mile out, and so was it's video recording.

No worries kona. Agreed that it's a largely positive review and if you want a fast fluid Android phone that takes great pictures and has a premium build then you can't go far wrong with the S6.

It's safe to say that Samsung will have the upper hand over HTC this year. Even the battery life isn't too bad :)

Yes battery life in their tests fared better than even the M9 with its lower screen res and bigger battery...go figure. S6 Edge result was 1hr more than S6?? lol

But I'll wait for Anandtech and ARS Techinca battery test for the full picture.

Also to to note, the S6 is the first phone to match the iPhone's sunspider benchmark. Impressive.

^I was impressed by the benchmarks and it seems that the Exynos certainly does hold its own against the opposition.

The Anandtech review will most certainly be the reference point but for those looking for an all round phone it seems that for now Samsung have hit it out of the park!

I think the combination of the extra mAh and software trickery led to the Edge able to obtain extra in terms of the battery test.

This could be the non tablet phone of 2015.

Had a play with both and I think I prefer the S6. It felt nicer in the hand.
Just don't see the point in the edge or paying extra for it now.

Another crippled active device, no go for me. Also the s5 mini was waterproof without the flap?! Why didn't samsung work on that some more.

If I were to buy the S6 then I'd also go for the standard version as opposed to the Edge.

A brief scan of the Anandtech preview state that the S6 Edge felt sharp in the hand which echoes what you said about the S6 feeling nicer in the hand.

Samsung have made some minor compromises in terms of the active, shame they couldn't keep the same camera module if the rumours pan out.

I've got an M8 at the moment and the camera was covered by thin crappy plastic that cracked after about 6 months. Looks like they've fixed this with sapphire in the M9, but there are too many downfalls for me to stick with HTC this time round.

Does anyone know if the S6 camera cover is sapphire glass?

Note 4 Exynos has ROM's from Wanam and Sweet. So the S6 should be the same.

Ans since the S6 is Exynos only, there should be much more support.

Hi, i thought the HTC M9 would have better battery life, bigger battery, 1080p screen, the s6 edge by this looks excellent

Something doesn't add up here!

Unfortunately, in the case of the Galaxy S6 edge, we had to green light the test at 180 nits, as that's the highest brightness the display can reach when manually set. This gives the S6 edge a small... well, edge, over the competition that had to play by the rules

And...
