BT Infinity - Still slow? shocker!

So I just want to know if anyone else is getting slow speeds in the NW at the moment, I made a post a little while ago about my antics with BT and since then, everything has been fixed, but I'm still not getting my full speeds.

I'm currently connected via: Master socket > Openreach Modem > BT HH5

And here is what I'm currently getting and what I have been getting since my Internet lines were fixed. (Just to clarify, I got my position switched at the cabinet, all the cables to my master socket replaced etc).

Do you know how far away your FTTC street cab is? bear in mind it is not a line of sight, there is the route taken to your property by the pole and drop wire etc.

The test result you have posted does show you are in the acceptable range. However this is not real world and I think you have stated before that BT engineers have recorded 75 at the master socket?

Have you tested a laptop or other connected device for a speed test?
You can plug into the Open reach modem directly if you set up a PPPoE connection on your PC/Laptop.

I know you have had a lot of work done your side, however you can call them up on your speed if you are not getting what you are expected and what you are paying for.

I would also use broadband checkers for other providers to see what they think your projected speed would be to your address post code and house number. They are usually good as they have to be upfront about the expected speed.

Do you mean Master socket > Openreach Modem > BT HH4 ?

Cause if it is a HH5 you should just use that tbh

And just for the added hilarity "are you using a wired or wireless connection?"

Nope, HH5. I got told that to prevent drops if you plug in a Openreach modem, it will stop them, I did and it did, so I just kept it that way. I mean I could go and unplug it now because my internet was fixed about a week ago but I've just not gone ahead and done so since the line was fixed and it's been stable. Sorry for any confusion. Having the modem plugged in may be the cause of the lack of speed, but I'm not entirely sure.

Wired of course. :)

It's literally about a 5 minute walk, if that.

Very true my friend, when the socket was first tested he said that I'd be getting 71-75, but then after doing more tests he said I'd only be getting 66-70 and this is how it's been for a while now since the full FIX (new wires, new position on the cabinet, etc, etc).

I've not actually, I've tried it on my phone but that's just limited to certain speeds, like it wont go past a certain point, not sure if that's a limitation on the phone or whatever.

I might end up doing this, I think what I'm going to do is I'm going to remove the openreach modem tomorrow, give it a full reset and then see what kind of speeds I'm getting if they're no better, I'll give them a call I think.

Okay man, I'll do that for sure, thanks very much.

(Replies are in bold, just to prevent any confusion, lol)

I Don't have any problems with mine:

Are you connected directly to the HH5 mate or?

If you've only tried on your phone then they will ask you to do a test via a machine connected via ethernet.

You max achievable is sitting at 65.54, which shows acceptable throughput at 40-65.
Your probably synching at around 66meg
I'd expect a quick test on ethernet will give even higher results.

However, the "expected" speeds will only be an estimate and they will have T+C's in position advising speeds may vary due to things such as distance, wireless and home network ;)

I'm already on Ethernet mate, I get 43-51mbps on Ethernet, that's what my main computer is connected with.

Furthermore, prior to all of these problems I was getting 66 - 73mbps, but even after the fix, the speeds have not increased. I mean 50mbps is fine, it's perfectly acceptable, but I'd like max if I'm paying for max, you know?

It took a good week before my line recovered much after BT derped and trapped my cable partially damaging it and atleast 2 weeks before it was back upto proper 80/20 speeds - though you may find you've got a stuck profile it it remains capped around 40mbit.

According to the test above your not gonna get 66-73 as you appear to not even be synching at that speed. Router stats?

So ruling out wireless you're getting around 51meg I'd love that. Still no infinity for me, rubbish considering I was told it would be done By I think it was june last year, well the exchange was but no cabs were done lol :(

You're likely paying for "upto 80 meg" or whatever they said at point of sale, they'd normally give you a range of speeds and as long as your speed falls within this then that's acceptable.

Not a profiling issue if he gets higher speeds on ethernet.
have a fiddle with yer wireless settings mate :)

Yep, totally understand that, however, they are usually in the ball park for expected speeds as they do know your distance from the cab ;)
