I will be building this out in quite some detail, so please come back often to see updates. If you would like something specific resolutions/settings/games with whatever cards I have available please ask.

This thread is to help people make an informed decision on how to move on with upgrading/sidegrading etc.

PC Specs
CPU: i7 3930K
Mobo: P9X79 Deluxe
RAM: Kingston Hyper-X 16GB 1600mhz
Monitor: 4K Asus PB287Q
PSU: Corsair AX1200

GPUs:

  • 1x Gibbobyte Titan X 12GB :D - Stock 1075/1753

    Asic Quality 73%
    Stock Max Temps : 83c
Custom Profile Max Temps : 71c

    Stock Boost 1189Mhz
    OC Boost 1453Mhz

    Stock Mem 7010Mhz
    OC Mem 7828Mhz

  • 2x MSI R9-290s 4GB - 977/1250
  • 2x Galax EXOC GTX970s 4GB - 1266/1753
  • 2x Asus GTX680s Vanilla 2GB - 1058/1502

I currently don't have the GTX970s (RMAed/Refunded) but I have quite a few games already covered on my website (HardwarePal).

Other than the GTX970s I still have the rest of the GPUs, so it will be easier to test on specifics you guys want.

First impressions:

The card is relatively long but looks pretty cool with the lit up green Geforce GTX logo on the side.

At first the idle temps freaked me out a little (37-45c) with an ambient of 20.9c, but after running the card through a few loops of 3DMark and looking at the fan speeds and temps my concerns were resolved.

Note: I didn't get into much hassle of fixing my case fan speed (was on silent mode) and also have the case lying down on it's side.

I think Nvidia should have gone a bit more aggressive on the fan profiles but the card is very quite on stock and some people might actually prefer it that way.

The stock boost is 1075Mhz but my card runs all the way up to 1189Mhz which is impressive. I created a 1:1 fan profile (30%-30c , 40%-40c etc) so I can run a few overclocks and I was able to get a stable 1453/7828Mhz which is amazing on a stock bios and a reference air cooler.

Firestrike Extreme Bench:
Score : 8859
3930K @ Stock (air)
Titan X 1453Mhz/1957Mhz (Stock bios - Air)
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/6395959

Firestrike 4K Ultra Bench
Score : 4842
3930K @ Stock (air)
Titan X 1453Mhz/1957Mhz (Stock bios - Air)
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/6395624

I obliterated both my SLI GTX970 and CFX R9-290 scores without even overclocking my CPU

All cards seem to boost to 1400mhz (core) with ease on custom fan profiles, perhaps use this O/C for your comparisons, I think we'll be seeing the TX destroy the opposition with this.

Added Firestrike 4K Ultra benches (SLI GTX970 and CFX R9-290)

Added H1Z1 benches 1440p and 4K (R9-290 - GTX680)

Added DA:I DX and Mantle 1080p benches (GTX970 single/SLI, R9-290 single/CFX)

hi Greg

i'm most interested in Sniper Elite 3 at 1080p..........a single TX vs SLI 970

we know already that both are about the same, but it would be reassuring to see it confirmed here too

Hey Mal X

I'm Nikolas (africanos23) thread OP.

I don't have the SLI GTX970s anymore but I can grab a copy of Sniper Elite 3 and run a few benches on the Titan X for you to compare.

1080p Ultra all eye candy maxed ?

Any specific scenes of the game you would like to test against your own results?

Added Dying Light benches

Added benchmark test scenes for DA:I, H1Z1 and Dying Light (for anyone that wants to replicate the benchmarks in the same scenarios with their own hardware)

hi M8

sorry for delay, i'm real busy trying to repair and RMA my pc....it's totally ruined, it needs a new CPU and Mobo :(my pc wont be fixed till early next week

my SE 3 benches are on that SE 3 Benchmark thread here somewhere in this section, so i can easily compare them in Heaven

it's SE3.......1080P............all settings maximum, now, the TX will need roughly a 50% OC ( because that's what i'll use and it corresponds to the 970 SLI ..

just run the SE 3 Benchmark tool because that's all i did, it's in the start menu somewhere, thanks.

no other games need to be tested because all the others are Ubi rubbish anyway :D

oh..................i'll need its temps too....thanks

I will test stock and my max 24/7 OC later tonight or tomorrow.

Interesting DA:I results for the 290 with and without Mantle, it seems on that particular game Mantle is pap

If the game was tested on a lower end CPU there would be bigger differences and more gains with Mantle.

The only thing I observed for 4K was:

"In Mantle the R9-290 hits higher averages while in Crossfire it holds better minimums."

I added frametime graphs in my original article. Can't post link though sorry.

Search google for : Dragon Age Inquisition Benchmark Mantle Vs DirectX

The first result is mine

Added Titan X OCed DA:I and Dying Light 2560x1600 results (Maxed out)

per request from user ntemples1

DA:I Titan X OCed
2560x1600 Ultra Preset
Avg 57.6

Dying Light Titan X OCed
2560x1600 (Everything Maxed And On - View Distance 100%)
Min 74 - Avg 97.28 - Max 145

Added orange to the Titan X results for easy reading
