295x2 vs Titan x

Is it me or has £800+ for a gpu become mainstream acceptable? I'm thinking £500 was pushing it for the majority but when you see the hype for the TitanX it appears as if everyone is buying this overpriced card.

Anyway if money is no object then the TitanX would probably be the better choice but only for a few months until the new AMD cards come out. Best price/performance ratio goes to the 295X2 though since its half the price and crossfire is not really a issue for most games. I doubt AMD would price their 390X the same as a TitanX so I would personally wait for that before making a decision. A dual gpu 390X could be a possiblity too.

It's worth it imo. Miles ahead when OCed, to any SLI/Crossfire setup I have had. (GTX970s,R9-290s)

+ a lot less hassle with non-SLI/CFX games and waiting for drivers or profiles

Nah it's not become accepted it's just another very small niche sector of the market that's been opened up.

As much as Nvidia want people to buy Titans many will avoid them. This is why the 9xx series were so warmly received because that's where the market goes. High end customers will mostly wait for the 990ti or whatever the bejesus Nvidia decide to call it.

Oh yes the thread OP..

The two should not be compared due to price. One costs £499 the other twice as much.

However I wouldn't buy neither. I would wait for the 390 'cause it'll no doubt stand toe to toe with Titan X and cost half, so you could buy a pair of those with a little patience (like me :D )

295X2 is the clear winner if the game supports CF. And especially at 4K res, Titan X is left behind.

Also with the latest Catalyst beta drivers, you can try force it in game that they do not (from a new set of settings).

Nop...

My Crossfire R9-290s aren't that slower than the 295X2 and the Titan X I just added to my system is much smoother and slightly faster on just about everything @ 4K.

If the OP wants the best experience, is serious about high res gaming then get the Titan X.

If the OP wants the above but is budget conscious, and doesn't mind a few comprises when drivers and xfire profiles are to be desired then get the cheaper 295x2.

I should bloody well hope so, it costs over two times as much! Being single card it will feel smoother I would have thought.

If it was priced about £400 I would have bought one. Great performance, even though it runs hot (I don't care much about that, got nice case cooling).

I own a R295 X2 and will admit I have so far found the experience frustrating to say the least but it's insane to spend £900 on a graphics card (IMO) and you can pretty much guarantee the price will fall dramtically in the next 6 months.

I will stick with the AMD for the time being and see whats around the corner as the Titan X really is not any quicker.

You crossfire people could take some of the power back into your own hands and use something like Radeon Pro when AMD doesnt have a working crossfire profile for your card.. nVidia users have had to do this from time to time now. You have options, so use them and hopefully get a better experience :) Cheers

+1. It's unfortunate that AMD doesn't always have its drivers ready on time for big releases, but there are other ways of getting your crossfire setups working.
