Just fancy a change so was looking at changing monitors to something with better black levels and gaming times. (that's the only reason I'm failing at games right?)

Not looking to spend a huge amount more of an impulse buy rather than anything. (maybe 650 euros?)

Any ideas?

I quite liked the 30" size so some similar sized or bigger. Would consider a 27" though if it was excellent.

Basically I want something that is good for gaming yet at the same time has got a really good screen. I'm tired of "blacks" being greys if you know what I mean.

i thought IPS panels are not as good for gaming due to the massive input lag

a VA panel is in the middle between TN and IPS offering low input lag and deep blacks

VA panel? You mean the new 40" Philips one (looks interesting) or the EIZO fg2421 (which looks fantastic, but is probably just a bit small for me :( )

hmm, done a quick search but nothing is jumping out at me.

Tempted by the 40" philips (aside from OCUKs rip off pricing), but wonder if now is the time to jump to 120hz+. Is there any real difference between 60hz and 120hz?

Some people will swear blind that you can't play FPS games unless you have a 120/144hz monitor but in my experience it makes very little difference compared to a 60hz monitor. I've gone back from a 120hz monitor to a 60hz one and TBH I can't really tell any difference. TN panels on the other hand are horrible things and I'd never go back to one of them. I personally really like my 34" 21:9 3440x1440 display but in your situation it's probably not much of an upgrade from a 30" 2560x1600 monitor.

If it were me in your situation I'd be choosing between either a 32/40" 4k IPS display or a 34" 21:9 1440p IPS display right now.

I look to this post for help with monitors generally. I'd avoid VA panels for gaming, they're a bit too slow for my liking, but then that's the only way to get proper blacks... there's always a compromise to be made I guess. Personally, I'd say go check out the BenQ 32'' 4k monitor, it's just amazing.

tbh VA panels are no slower than IPS panels, and some VA panels perform better than IPS..

people always say for hardcore gamer get a TN panel, for a balance between gaming and true black quality go for a VA panel, for photo editing, light gaming etc go for a IPS panel.
