BMW 535d sport m

Well then you should look into materials and some Engineering. I need not say anything, those will describe it all, especially when you consider suspension bushings and dampers for example.

Well you've been given some meaningful and quite obvious advice, but have decided to employ the tactic of:

'NER NER I'm not listening I know what I want, I know best NER NER'.

Why even bother with some stubborn people, easier to just let them **** up and learn for themselves :D

I haven't said I know best whenit comes to mechanical stuff I know sod all. But I'm 39 years old and have owned about 10 plus cars and 12 plus motorbikes and I know what type of engine I like so is hardly ner ner. For example I prefer a Ducati v twin engine on a motorbike over an in line 4. Many will disagree and prefer an inline 4 and that's fine. That's the beauty of being human we all like different things. If you look through the thread there are only a handful of replies from people that have tried to help by pointing out things to look for and be wary about with the engine. Wheras others have gone buy a petrol. I just don't want a petrol and dont have to justify why. Im we'll aware that my usage would be better suited to a petrol but when I do use the car it's mainly long runs on the motorway as the rest of time I use one of my motorbikes or I cycle

As opposed to your :

'NER NER I'm not listening I know what YOU want, I know best NER NER'.

Then it doesn't necessarily equate that your useage would indeed be better with a petrol. If the car only gets used on long runs.

The beauty of motors is you'll be told what you need to hear, not what you you want to hear, but most of the time there's a good reason for it.

I've spent time of various car enthusiast forums and you simply cannot put a foot wrong. It's circles like that which make a mess of peoples decisions and, inevitably, their wallets.

That is of course not to say that you should blindly follow the advice (because you shouldn't), but there's very little bias passed on this forum and the members only offer advice they genuinely believe will be advantageous to the user.

Thank jesus for the awesome advice from the ocuk motors contributors \o/

Without you all we would all be driving around in Ford Mondeos or Skoda Suburbs. Oh wait.

Wow...is the 35d engine really that bad?

No, it's a great engine but they can be quite fragile with age and are best enjoyed when the bills are somebody else's problem.

I am not anti diesel. I drive one myself and I really like it - the power delivery is excellent, the performance is fantastic and its remarkably efficient for the performance it delivers. But unlike xs2man the fact I bought a diesel doesn't mean I need to evangelise about them, they have quite significant limitations and there are numerous situations whereby they are not the best choice. At this end of the market this is surely one of those situations, its a complex troublesome pain waiting to happen and the pre LCI ones were not even that frugal either. You take on large risk for little reward. If you can afford to shrug this off then you can afford to buy a better one than a 6k example in the first place.

At the 6k end of the market an N52 petrol engined 530i will be smoother, more reliable, quieter and not a world apart fuel economy wise, whereas a V8 545i would offer more shove, more torque and great power delivery style. Both are excellent choices for such low annual mileage.

Nobody wants a petrol bmw, everyone wants a diesel. A 6k petrol is 6k because nobody wants it, a 6k 535d is 6k for a reason that's probably not quite as nice.

His previous BMW petrol experience is a 25 year old E34 and an E39 with one of the weakest engine choices so neither are cars to make a decision based on.

New toy bmw e60 535d

Well after looking for ages for a 535d I found one that I'm happy with on Thursday It's a 07 se in grey and has most of the kit that I wanted apart from heated seats, nav and would have really preffered the sport model but couldn't find one which wasn't more than I really wanted to spend. Full fsh and one previous owner and done 82000 miles. Haven't seen any issues as yet with other than wheels are covered in brake duets at rear and calipers are dirty so at some point I'll get them off and give them a clean and maybe re spray caliipers.

Just had it fully valeted today so can try and keep it nice from here on. First impressions are really quick and smooth and economy wise pretty good. Very comfy and plenty of gadgets but don't really like the climate control but think that more a case of getting used to it and thought the idrive would have a bit more tech on it. No Bluetooth for phone or sub for music so need to work out a way to ideally get usb so can plug in a flas drive for music to play from and get some phone support for calls. Also in time would like to change the alloys for 18s and get a private plate.

I don't mean to be an *******, but it has no kit at all :(
You've been looking for ages and you ended up with no nav, no bluetooth and no heated seats, which are the 3 things you wanted :p

Enjoy it either way!

Has quite a bit of spec to be fair. Adaptive headlight, cruise, memory seats, duel climate control, the newer gearbox whic is more efficient and engine has more power, soft close doors and some other bits I quite recall. The car cost me 8.5k with full tank of fuel. Yes I wanted the nav and the Bluetooth but these are things that can be added fairly cheaply and if you have a look on eBay there are very few 535d in my price range around or even above and the mileage are always above 100k and had plenty of owners and generally the pre lci, older shaped cars. I comprised a little as its a rare car and even rarer in the condition of this one with the mileage and documented history that came with the car. I comprised for a clean example over a little more spec and way more miles.

Oh has auto lights and cornering lights and auto wipers and electric wheel. There really isn't much left on the spec sheet that I would be bothered about

Didn't you say in the op it was £6495?
