Best SSD for PS4 at the moment?

true - but not a risk I'd be willing to take on a currently priced 1Tb SSD. At least with SSHD's we know they work well ;)

Good wise choice btw Whappers. I wish these manufacturers would hurry up already with 2Tb 2.5" SSHD's.

Large sequential files are what sshds struggle with.

Saying that Freebsd has supported trim for a while now Sony may have implemented in one of the updates, don't think it's been a major subject for a while.

The 1tb Pro was very fast at first but after a while it slowed down considerably to the point it was noticeably slower than the stock drive. Re-Initialising the drive brought it back up to speed but again when it filled up past 500gb or so it slowed down again.

The same drive in my pc runs without issue even when full so I concluded the PS4 is not set up to manage SSD's.

I had a 1TB 5400rpm SSHD but this for me did not make much difference but as I was nearing its capacity limits and the rather small 8GB cache can only cache so much.

I tried the 7200rpm 1tb from my laptop which worked superb and tbh gave the best all round results of any drive. But I needed more space so settled with a 2TB 5400rpm unit which due to the platter sizes is not far of the 7200rpm drive performance wise. Only downside is it is now 1.6TB full and there is no bigger.

An SSHD isn't ideal for console use as you say. It makes sense when you have a small amount of data (ie OS/browser/office) which you can cache easily and always have available in the flash. But on a console each time you're going to be loading big amounts of different data with each game so it won't be cached you'll just be pulling it off the platters.

Fits with what you've experienced Moogleys, just get a big/fast mechanical drive.

All os's and drives struggle when they are full though.

It's currently in my Win 8.1 laptop and around 3/4 full and still maintaining full speed without issue.

Win 8.1 is set up to manage SSD's which would explain why it works perfect but the PS4 is not which also would explain the poor performance I that.

I put a 1tb ssd into my ps4 whilst I was waiting for the rest of the parts for a old pc build to arrive, wasn't worth it at all barley noticed any performance gain, would recomend getting a high capacity drive instead.
