Hey all,

Looking to upgrade from onboard once again (GTA is out soon provided no more late announcements!) so the time has come!

Can anyone advise whether the 780ti or gtx 970 would be a better buy? With the two free games with the KFA 970 both cards come in at around the same price.

Looking at anandtech bench, the 780ti is faster than the 970 but also produces more heat / noise. I game at 1920x1080 and have no intention of changing my screen for a few years yet!

Thanks

as your running 1080p it doesnt matter what you get tbh, i have a 780ti, and for the performance over then 970 its worth it, the noise difference is nothing

I wouldn't touch a 780ti over a 970. As well as probably having a longer support lifespan you've got an extra half gig of ram and another half on tap and it does sometimes matter at 1080p, I sold my 780 because 3 gb's wan't always enough at 1080p and the reason I never went with a ti was because it had the same amount of ram, There's several games topping 3gb's now a days.

Next you have better DX12 support and feature support on a 970??? You need to look into that though I haven't confirmed it, I just read it.

And at the moment the 970 can be had with Witcher 3 and if you get the right model GTA V as well while the ti comes with none meaning the price advantage for the ti is gone.

Plus it runs cooler while using less power apparently. The ti is a good card but your better off going with the newer series card.

So many conflicting answers! :( The 780ti appeals for the price however........ as above factor in a gtx 970 @ £299 with two game codes that could be sold! The price difference wouldn't be very much at all?

I'm not sure how good the KFA2 card is however.

Only issue being of course that SLI with 970s is a complete oxy moron.

IE - if the VRAM bus isn't good enough for 1440p and above what's the point SLI-ing them.

'jus saying, like.

It's the same for both these cards seeing as the ti only has 3 gb's but at least the 970 has an extra half gig and an extra half on top of that of additional all be it slower ram so it is the better option of the two for sli regarding ram limits and the better 1080 card. The performance difference isn't massive unless you cherry pick results which works either way.

Some people say it's a non issue but personally when touching over that 3.5GB usage it's not a nice site.

You have to brute force crazy settings though to make it hit over that amount. Driver seems to be forcing it to just a tad bit under 3.6GB.

At 1440p the 970 gets out performed by a Radeon 290. Quite simply - memory bandwidth.

So the 780ti will be better for that res.

My point still stands. Running SLI 970 for 1440p for example is not great because the 970 has terrible memory bandwidth. So you would be better off with TIs, even though they have less VRAM IMO.

I would rather have 500mb less and full speed bandwidth than 3.5gb running on a crap bus.

Going back to my point btw. 970 SLI for 1080p is daft and anything above falls foul of the memory bandwidth so running 970 SLI is an oxy moron, as I pointed out.
