High demand for Titan X exceed supply

I kinda agree with both Hexus and Tweaktown. 1440P is the sweetspot for me and a single TX and G-Sync ensures the low frames feel smooth but ideally you would want these cards for 4K or above.

I stand corrected! (said the man in the orthopaedic shoe)

I think I must have seen some other benchmarks somewhere, or got confused, which is quite possible. Can Titan X SLI do Crysis 3 at near enough max settings at 4k, at 60fps?

If 2 TX's can properly do 4k justice (and for that I mean 60fps minimum) that's bad news for me - I will no doubt end up wanting a bloody 4k screen and then have to get another TX! Money money money...

Has anyone seen what the 3D capability are of the Titan X? I'm sure Oculus/VR screens will move to 2560x1440 this year and 4k next year. Could a single Titan X do 3d at 2560x1440?

I have played in 3D on a few games (stereoscopic 1440P) and it copes extremely well. I have not found a game that it can't cope in

Occulus Rift will certainly have no issues.

Yep, but it would be coupled by another upgrade, either a ROG Swift, or perhaps one of the new 120Hz IPS panels that are on the horizon. I'm not sold on 4k, yet.

Take my advice and stick with what you have for now, then.

Yeah 1440p and 144hz are nice (even if it's a little nonsensical because of res + the FPS you need to create) but 4k is better.

It took me nine months of serious deliberation before I finally went to 4k. I already had the GPUs in place but wasn't happy with the refresh rates and so on. Only when 60hz met G-Sync did I finally take the plunge.

And for the most part it was worth it. Older games look worse at 4k than they do at 1080p though. Texture stretching FTL.

I'll take it, thanks :) My current screen is 144Hz, not G-Sync, but using the lightboost strobe hack at 120Hz its very smooth. Framerate is high and consistent enough that I don't get any tearing with the titles I play.

4k is tempting, especially for games like Homeworld Remastered, I'd love to see that at 4k. But the same as you were, its refresh rate and scaling that's putting me off at the moment. I'm so hooked on high refresh now that I'm not sure I can go back to 60Hz.

Not like they made millions of them. Lol.

Nvidia have successfully created a brand of card slapping a high price tag on it and creating desire. If they can keep a step ahead of AMD technically and get the timing right, the next TITAN in 18-24 month time will sell even more I think. They run their business better than AMD and capitalise on the mindshare advantage they currently have.

This.

The danger is that unless AMD's next GPU generation is completely awesome and trump NVIDIA's lineup, NVIDIA will continue to gain market share, and products like the Titan X will become the norm, and we enthusiasts will have no alternative for a top end GPU.

Well there still isn't a single GPU capable of consistent high settings in all games at 4k.

I'll wait a while. Titans always seem to perform better at launch than they do a few months later. I remember reading reviews of the 970 and they were saying it's faster than a 780ti and a Titan Black. Eeeeyup, my chocolate tea towel holder is it.

Why do reviewers get so bloody excited over a new Nvidia GPU? Most exaggeration ever.

Look at the 970 now. Crusty old 1080p card hardly any one wants, worse than a 290. Wasn't worse than a 290 at review time ! every one rushed out and bought them.

I'm getting tired of these hype trains now. That's why I just bought a third Titan Black, to show I'm not riding on them.

It is the fastest single GPU in the world and the faster graphics card over most games without any Xfire issues, so of course it will sell well.

It is the single bets card money can buy. Looks like Nvidia prices it perfectly to still sell bucket loads but get a high margin.
